How safe is Gmail?

i ask this as they say you will never need to delete any emails ,as you have a gig of space to keep them on ,but makes me think people could see every email you ever get ..unlike pop servers where after uyou read it its gone from there server ..if you get info from your bank ect you dont want it stored on someones server if you see what i mean ;)

To be honest, I wouldn't use any web-based email account for sensitive or confidential information, although I don't consider GMail to be any less secure than any other web mail.

you can still delete them, and it is like any other web based email and probably any other paid email, in that emails can be stored in their servers for some time, you have one gig, you don't have to use it, I frequently delete the crap I have in my gmail account.

but if you are worried I would not use any free web based email client, if your not so worried I would stick with gmail.

ik
p.s. it does not bother me, because sensitive info should be tidied up by the user IMHO.

so similar to yahoomail hotmail etc etc

also you can setup up your client so that it doesnt delete from POP servers either.

At the end of the day its up to you how you manage your email. Just as its up to you how you destroy physical letters that your bank may send you.

I'm sure that you can use pop3, download them & delete them from the server at the same time.

Whatever I don't really care I don't think I send any really sensitive info by email anyway. It's free, it works & I can format my computer & not lose my mail.

I wouldnt use email for any confidential information unless it was an absolute last resort

if someone hacks ya pw it dont matter how you get ya mail they can still read it..

although i suppose with webmail its a slightly higher risk as its always there on webmail where as with pop3 its usually downloaded and then deleted...
