Knowing your area?

Hi,
Firstly if there is another thread about this (which im sure there is) im sorry, been trying 2 search 4 1 but no luck.
Anyway i've only just started looking through the forum nd there seems 2 be 2 area's langley nd bromley.
I have no idea of which 1 i'm in though. I live in Warrington (nr. Manchester).

Warraington/Manchester is a former Cable & Wireless area, & comes under the Bromley franchise.

I can confirm that Warrington is ex-Nynex, ex-Cable&Wireless and is now on Bromley.

Maybe we should turn this into a poll thread!

My vote is for Bromley.

No need for a vote-I'm right. ;)

Re: Knowing your area?

Apart from Langley and Bromley meaning different things to different people (particularly when you start talking about SACMs), the Bromley *platform* is generally taken to mean DOCSIS digital TV STBs on UBRs in areas originally set up for DTV by C&W. Manchester and the rest of the North West, being the first area rolled out in 1999 certainly comes under this.

Franchises are different again, they are AFAIK legal entities where a particular cable company is allowed to install and sell cable services. A franchise will be either Bromley, Langley (or none) for DTV.

Re: Knowing your area?

I've always though of it just as the Bromley platform being the bits that used to be owned by CWC, and Langley being the rest.

Maybe that's just overly simplistic...

Isn't the easiest way to check on BBC 1, if its on channel 1 you're Bromley, on Channel 101, Langley. Unless you know different. ;)
