Worried new guy.
First of all, hello everyone :) . I've been visiting these forums for a while now & gleaned much good info have I, thanks for that. Now I have a question.....
I use Zone Alarm Free and for the past few days have been getting a lot of alerts relating to one IP address, looks like an NTL customer (as am I). The firewall appears to be doing its job so not too worried realy, but a little concerned. I checked myself out at the ShieldsUp & Sygate sites & seem to be well stealthed. Should I contact NTL tech support about this? Or any other ideas? Cheers:waving: |
Re: Worried new guy.
hi and :welcome: to the site , most likely this is someone who doesnt know they are infected there pc is trying to infect the rest of the world , if you are happy your system is secure then i wouldnt worry about it , mind you an e-mail to ntl with the infected i.p. address wont go wrong i suppose :tu: :D

Re: Worried new guy.
www.ntlworld.com/netreport
there is an online form there for reporting such activities- tech support would only recommend that you complete this anyway as AUP deal with such activites and the form sends info directly to them. However, if you PM me the ip address in question i will have a look at what is going on on monday. oh... and :welcome: MB |
Re: Worried new guy.

mmm isnt' there something on the Robin Walker site about not being fully stealthed with Zonealarm. Could this 'attack' simply be the NTL network itself checkin ur still there... just a thought.

Re: Worried new guy.
Yea thats exactly what i mean, if its not that and he's done a 'Who is ' search on the ip addy he's talking about i guess that rules that out.

Re: Worried new guy.
The most likely culprit is an unprotected pc on the same area of the network that he is on, I was plagued with this sort of thing when the area I lived in first went on BB as most people see a firewall as an afterthought :(
The only other suspect for repeated pings would be someone that used to P2P but it would be slightly more than one IP address pinging him so we can probably rule that out too lol |
Re: Worried new guy.
Have to say its the one thing that really bugs me. The large stores rollinout these pc's and no one actually takin some time to show how they should be configured or used responsibly. Here have a car, there's the keys we've shown u how to turn it on... no go forth and multiply:shocking:
i'm helpin pop80_uk rig up a wireless network and his neighbour had the cheek to warn him to keep out of his wireless network, not for one minute thinkin that his security is his responsibility  . |
Re: Worried new guy.
Mmmmmm, beer goood :spin:
As far as I know, NTL know I'm here & I've not altered any settings recently..... I'm betting it's someone just got a puter for christmas along with a BB con  lol |

Re: Worried new guy.
Yup, well stealthed in ZA, it just seems to be a lot of stuff coming from one place. I'll go fill in the form that MB pointed me to here www.ntlworld.com/netreport if he/she hasn't found out what's going on. I don't want to drop some-one in it if I can help it.
