Canceling carphone warehouse contract?
My contract is just 5 days away from the 12 month minimum and since I have to give 30 days notice to cancel I have decided to do it today. The phone has been handy on more than one occasion but in the end has end has cost me double what a pay as you go mobile would have, on some occasions I have spent far more than I had available to spend and this would never have happened on pay as you go either.
Only problem is I cant find most of my documents so I dont know what methods are available to me to cancel my contract and my lifeline insurance. I have my account numbers for both the mobile and the insurance so im sure there wont be a problem there. Basicly I just want to know what methods are available? Can I cancel in store (preferable)? Can I cancel over the phone (If so what are the numbers to call?)? or do I have to put it in writing like with NTL? Also I take it im correct in thinking the phone is now mine to keep? Will the Sim be moved over to pay as you go or will I have to do that myself? |
Re: Canceling carphone warehouse contract?
i dont have a phone with CPW but.... on my insurace it specifys i have to write to them or ring them, i think you should give your insurance company a call.
as for the contract you will proberbly have to serve a letter of notice to CPW to tell them you wish to cease the contract. its always handy to keep a copy of the letter and to note when you sent it! |
Re: Canceling carphone warehouse contract?
Ok, I've had a few different phone contracts in my time (although non of them have been with Carphone Warehouse).
Whenever I have cancelled a contract I have had to submit 30 days notice, In writing, to the accounts / customer service department. The address will usually be on the back of the bill. Your best bet is to give them a call (Contact Details) on the customer service number to find out what the actual policy is. You will also probably need to give the lifeline people a call to establish how you go about cancelling that. As for the phone, the handset is yours and you should be free to use that however you want to. You may find that it has been "locked" to whatever network you are currently using (Vodafone, Orange etc) and it will only work if a sim card for that network is installed. Carephone Warehouse should be able to assist you in unlocking it in the event that you wish to transfer to a different network or you may wish to simply purchase a new handset. The sim card will be deactivated once your account has been cancelled and you cannot transfer it to a pay as you go (PAYG) service. You will need to either buy a new handset that comes with a PAYG sim or you can simply buy a PAYG sim pack from most mobile phone retailers and then use that in your existing handset (not withstanding the issue with it being locked to a certain network as mentioned above). Like I say, best bet is to give customer service a call and ask, in fact the guys instore should be able to give you the information you need as well. HTH |

And don't forget to cancel your direct debit before they start taking out more money.

Re: Canceling carphone warehouse contract?
You should be able to walk into the branch and ask them to cancel it.
They may ask you to sign something, or even put it into writing (although that is unlikely). Don't forget to make sure that you have paid everything you owe under the contract before you cancel though as CPWH may charge you if a DD gets refused! |
