ntl Digital TV Questions

I can't say I am a huge fan of ntl TV but there is the value for money when you include Broadband and Phone line. But there are a few thongs that have bothered me that I thought this would be the place to get these questions answered.

Firstly it seems like when they launched it looked good but then they just left it and don't want to update it or anything. Like all the channels were in some sort of logical order but now with the addition of all the new channels they havenââ‚ƚ¬Ã¢â€žÂ¢t bothered to re arrange them like, Sky Sports Xtra and Sky Sports News, why are they not right next to Sky Sports 3. Also E4 is 144 and E4+1 is 145 yet when you press channel up when you are on E4 (144) it doesnââ‚ƚ¬Ã¢â€žÂ¢t go to 145. I don't know about any one else but these are little things that cause big annoyance.

Also the lack of interactive features and the reliability of it. On paper it seems like a good idea it all comes down the one cable and you don't need to plug your phone line in so why is it so unreliable.

Also since I got digital not long after it was released it doesnââ‚ƚ¬Ã¢â€žÂ¢t seem to have changed very much. Like the firmware doesnââ‚ƚ¬Ã¢â€žÂ¢t seem to have been upgraded.

My main moan is the bit about the TV channels it just seems like it wouldn't take much effort on there part, but customers would appreciate it allot. I mean I don't even know what the channel numbers are for the other music channels that are hiding some where in between all the other channels.

Thank You for letting me let off a bit of steam.

Any input or if I have triggered any one else off then any comments would be great. Any solutions would be even more welcomed.

Thanks

Jamie - Bournemouth, Dorset

P.S. Ex C&W if thatâ₠¬Ã¢â€žÂ¢s any help I see it posted don't know if that helps in any way.

I believe channel renumbering is in the pipeline but this would be a huge project (imagine people's confusing when they try to tune to their normal channel number and get something completely different.)

If i press channel up on E4 i get E4+1 - have you rearranged your channel order? because if so it will go to the next channel in your order rather than the next numerically.

have to agree with you on this- interactive on freeview is much better

There have been a number of updates... for example in the last year CR3 was released and this was a major update from the old CR2 software. There are also beta tests of new software taking place at the moment.

I see your point, but as i said it would be a massive project and cause confusion to a lot of customers. Personally, there are only about 10 channels that i watch reguarly and i know the numbers of these of by heart anyway. there is also the option to rearrange the channels into the order you want, so this allows people to put all their favourites at the beginning of the list, or indeed to chose any order they like :)

Jamie, I organise my channels into an order that makes sense to me using the 'favourites' button

Re. CR3 in the past year -- the OP is on the Bromley platform, which hasn't seen an update in quite a while now.

Thanks for the replies I have heard that you can re araange them. It just seems from my limited knowledge of sky they have there channels set into blocks of hundreds, so when a channel is released it can go into the same section as the others. It just means that it could be months before you realise that a new channel is on ntl because regardless of the number it could be any were, like with Sky Sports Xtra, i'm not actually sure when it was released and only found it because I decided to go through all the channels. I will have a go at re arranging but seems like common sense to put channels in groups.

Once again thanks for the replies.

Is anyone else chuckling at the accidental use of the word "Thong" :)

Welcome to the forums all the same Claughton...

You can swicth the channel order on ex-c&w boxes by hitting "Favourites" then "Edit chanel order"

It's a bit of a fankle, but you only have to do it the once and it makes a big ol difference.

Interactive is coming along slowly, not to the level of freeview or sky, but frankly news-multi-channel aside yer not missing all that much...

I believe there'll be an update to your software in the fairly near future... but I'm always wary of things constantly being updated - people go on about how much they want a samsung box because it's new so *must* be better... my reconditioned pace box has worked like a dream for the past year, the only reason I changed from the box before was that i'd moved house - and it was another pace that had worked for a good three years with no problems...

If it aint broke, don't fix it... and it's not really broke, just a little rough around the edges :)
