Thanks for your reply, I have not upgraded my system, but I did click on a Windows update. When I go to sign in for my email I get a file transfer window that fails to complete.

What software are you using for email? You should get more information than that but sometimes you have to click on a button to get more details.

Re: Help with email

Yahoo web interface? Do you run a firewall of any kind? If you do make sure that Yahoo is allowed through as some firewalls can be accidentally set to block sites via pop up alerts.

Re: Help with email

To be quite honest I don't know if I have a firewall. All that I have done is click on a windows update and ever since then my email has been blocked.

Sounds like yahoo is trying to install an update and failing, do you use yahoo messenger? If so have you tried going to the yahoo messenger site and downloading the latest version of the software?

If you are running SP2 then you can do it through the control panel or
http://www.microsoft.com/athome/secu.../firewall.aspx
http://www.qsl.net/vk2jtp/xpfirewall.htm
might help with that but if you need more help you may want to start a new thread or this one will become confused very quickly ;)

I have just reinstalled yahoo messanger. This has made no difference to my email. When I try to sign in I get a file download box that fails to complete. As the transfer proceeds a blocking star appears. And email fails to open.

Re: Help with email

Blocking star? Is this how it shows the file transfer progress? Can you look in the bottom right corner ofc your desktop (near the clock) to see what ivcons you have? A lot of them will tell you what they are if you hold the cursor over them for a few seconds.

I am still unable to get my email even though I have disabled the firewall.

No need to start a new thread, a number of things may be blocking the emails getting to you, I take it you are running the web interface and it's asking for an update which it can't get to. You may need to check in your restricted sites list to make sure that Yahoo isn't being blocked by internet explorer. if it's not being blocked there we may need to know what other software you have running in the background just in case.
Most of the important apps will be in the corner near the clock on the task bar so it won't take long to figure out what you are and aren't running :)
