Protected Content WMA to disc???

A friend bought a track off a website #whispers# Westlife and was wanting to burn it on to disc. Unfortunetly it is WMA Protected Content and I do not think it is possible? When we try and do it nero comes up with a invalid file error?

Anything we can do?

But if you are burning an audio CD they need to be in uncompressed PCM (.wav) format anyway.

Re: Protected Content WMA to disc???

1. Create a "1mblank.wav" file by recording nothing for the entire 60 seconds.

2. Select EDIT - Insert File and insert the 1mblank.wav file you just created. You'll now notice that you have 120 seconds of record time available.

3. Repeat step 2 three more times to create a five-minute file and save as "5mblank.wav" file.

4. Select EDIT - Insert File and insert the 5mblank.wav file you just created. You'll now notice that you have 600 seconds of record time available.

5. Repeat step 4 six more times to create a 40-minute file and save as "40mblank.wav" file.

Most burning programs do not require this, Nero for instance will burn MP3 and WMA to an audio CD

I'm sure if you look hard enough you'll find an imitation soundcard driver that records it's output to file.

cant you just use the Nullsoft Disk Writer plug-in that comes as standard with winamp? play the track and save it to a new file?

I had a guide on here for burning tracks laden with DRM, but as the search stilll hasn't been put back on the site, I can't find it :(

But thinking about it, you can burn it straight from WMP

LOL.......well they just phoned to say they were so annoyed that they couldnt burn it to disc that they went hunting and found another copy on the net. They dont really know much about the internet. They then said that they downloaded a whole album off some website!!!

Just goes to show how actually they kick themselves in the foot with that protected crap!! :)

FWIW, iTunes lets you burn purchased i.e. DRM-protected tracks to CD very easily. You can even make up to 10 copies of the same playlist for multiple copies. (If you need more than 10, you have to make a new playlist.)
