Webhosting/domain registration
Can anyone please recomend a place that will allow me to register a somain name and host a website for as small a fee as possible.
The website at the moment is small enought to fit on a floppy disk, its unlikely more than 100 people a month will view the site, and I do not want to setup IIS on my computer. |

Re: Webhosting/domain registration
Ok, help me out here. I'm a bit of a :dunce:
Say that I want to register two domains: www.<whateverdomainname>.com www.<whateverdomainname>.co.uk I won't need to have a lot of space but I will want to be able to have a few pages up (possibly with a database running behind them). I'm not expecting a lot of traffic. With the CF packages can I create the pages myself (using either Frontpage or DreamWeaver) or do I have to use some pre-made pages? Does the bandwidth limit include emails and uploads or is that just a limit on people accessing my pages? Can I purchase extra bandwidth as time goes by? Do I have to have my home address visible on the registration page when people do a WhoIs lookup or can I make that invisible? Can I assume that all of the hosting packages will allow me to use scripts and PHP or will that be extra? Is there anything else that I should be considering? Any thoughts on what would be the best of the CF packages for me? I'm guessing that the lowest one would be ok given my usage but have I missed something obvious? Cheers guys. Raist. |

Re: Webhosting/domain registration
ok guys, I bought my domain with GXonline.
I went with Iwebsolutions for my hosting. Now how the feck do I get my page uploaded to Iweb, and then how to I get the domain name to work with the space at Iweb? I've only ever used my NTL webspace before :( |
Re: Webhosting/domain registration
I-web should of send an e-mail to you ref were to point your domain to.
Once you have done that it could take upto 7 days for your domain to propergate around all the dns servers. I say 7 days as it depends on the domain name. I have done one on a .com and it took a couple of hours :) Mainly due to the fact its a TLD name (Top Level Domain) I am sure others can put you right here also (probaly put me right also :D ) |
Re: Webhosting/domain registration
OK so I registered the doimain name last night, they said 24 - 48 hours.
So I understand that I need to point the domain name to the DNS servers for my hosting company, but when I log in, theres nothing to allow me to do so, is that because the registration is not yet complete? |
Re: Webhosting/domain registration
Hi TW,
You should have somewhere that allows you to change "nameservers" is this there at all?? What domain name did you sign up to i-web with? ill check your account and let you know which name servers you need to put in there :) |
Re: Webhosting/domain registration
As I see it your Domain registering company should give you a control panel all be it small. So as to allow you to point the domain to the required DNS / Name server.
It should also let you choose one of their services. Maybe an E-mail to them might help. Best get back to work 20 mins late from tea break already :D :D |

I setup the most bog standard hosting I could with Iweb. its registered under timewarrior2001 When I log into the members section at GNXonline, there is nothing there to allow me to set up the DNS address I need to use for iweb? I'm completely lost and feel utterly stoopid I cant figure it out. |
Re: Webhosting/domain registration
Look for NAMESERVERS not DNS
Your welcome email from IWEB will give you the two addresses you need How much did GXOnline cost? - I've not seen any cheaper than 123-reg |
