Ntlworld FTP upload help please

Hi chaps

I have had broadband for around 4 years, and only now have i decided to set up a website (yes - slow I know!). However I think there may be a problem at ntl's end with my account set up in that my account details simply are not recognised when I FTP to upload.ntlworld.com.

Using any FTP client (LeechFTP, XP ftp etc), I set up a connection to ftp://upload.ntlworld.com and enter my username and password - but without fail my password is always rejected. It recognises my username, but it is always failing on the password. I am sure I am using the correct password for my account! Unfortunately I have not had a reply to my emails to tech support via the ntlworld site.

Would some kind soul from ntl be able to have a quick look for me? If possible, please PM me and I will give you my username. TIA!

What happens when you follow the advice given here:

http://www.cableforum.co.uk/board/article.php?a=30

Edit: just a thought, but your user name should be the original one from when you first set up your ntl account, not one you may have changed to. If you have ever edited your master user name, I found that did not change the user name for the web space. Similarly the password is most lilely the original one assigned to you be ntl when your account was first set up (you may need to find the original account welcome letter or CD), rather than any new password you attempted to set up.

Hi - thanks for the link. I do get the 530 Login incorrect message so it does seem to be the password.

A good point about using the original password - i certainly did change it when I got BB about 4 years ago, so I will have a hunt around for the original CD. Thanks.

I don't think the password is on the cd, if you didn't keep a note of what it was, then you'll have to take paulyoung666's advice & call customer service ;)

I just had a look & my welcome letter gave only the account no. However we signed a customer service agreement prior to the installation, which gave a PIN no - IIRC during the initial registration I typed that in, chose a user name & then got assigned a password, which, luckily, i wrote down. :dozey:

I think it is wise to write these things down for times like these.

That sounds like the format of the original auto assigned passwords - something like M123456789.

Yep it's the auto assigned one that I found worked. T'was only when I'd phoned CS that I found that out, and then eventually came accross where I'd written it down. ntl very kindly gave a place in the broadband CD booklet to record all that useless information you never thought useful...

Well needless to say I cant find the original password on my CD (which I didn't think I even had as I never use those kind of CDs - I set things up manually), just the password i changed it to the day the CD arrived.

One call to CS on the way. Thanks for all the replies.

Jamie
