Re: call barring,

All outgoing calls, or just to certain (e.g. premium rate, mobile) numbers?

You can subscribe to various levels of call barring with ntl. Try phoning Customer Services.

Easy (so long as you have PAID to have call barring).

*341# will then bar all local calls
*342# will bar all national, international calls and (importantly) all calls to mobile phones.

HOWEVER - to remove the barring you need a PIN code - which you will get when you register / pay for call barring. When you have that

#341*PIN# will unbar local calls
#342*PIN# will unbar national, International calls and calls to mobiles

I use this system all the time - to keep my son off the phone! Once we went on hols and trusted him with the phone unbarred (for safety reasons) and had a bill of over £120 when we returned - 90% to mobiles

Yep! Been there, seen it, done it etc. Personally I have not had too many problems phoning CS and I have always found them helpful. About once each year or 18 months either junior (he is 18!) manages to sus out the PIN code or we have a brain-block and cannot remember it, so I have to phone up and have the PIN changed. The change has to wait for some hours to activate but CS have always sorted it out.

Incidentally - there is also a code to block INcoming phone calls. Can be useful when you think a certain junior is likely to phone at 2am requesting a "lift home from me mates".

Cheers
