Possible Solution to all your DNS troubles
I thought it about time i shared this with you.
I know there have been tons of dns problems with NTL over the last oh say 75 years but last year I sought to try and stop using the NTL's dns and came across a program called Treewalk DNS which uses BIND-PE. From the website: http://www.ntcanuck.com/ Quote:
Install it, reboot, set your adapter to use 127.0.0.1 as DNS (more to come as its not as easy as you would hope) make sure the service is running and bang off you go ;) Right to set your DNS server to 127.0.0.1. Simplest way to do it is run this little app I came across: http://www.bayern-surf.de/PS/extradns/setdns.exe Sets the DNS of all your adapters to 127.0.0.1. You should however be able to do it through the registry but the app gets my vote! Maybe someone can provide details for manual setting if required. (You cant set it through your adapter properties cause it doesnt like an address of 127.0.0.1 [on winxp anyway]) I've been using treewalk now for about a year and love it. I am by no means an expert but I will keep an eye on this thread and offer any help if you need it. Oh and you wanna know the best bit? It's FREE!! Have fun! Steven EDIT: Here is a direct link to the app: http://www.ntcanuck.com/DL/TreeWalk.exe |

Re: Possible Solution to all your DNS troubles
Not aware of any problems wih NTLs DNS servers, only their p(r)oxy servers. In any case, AFIK, there is nothing to stop you using any DNS server(s) out there. I'm not sure what advantage there is in running a local DNS server (but I'm willing to learn).

It will also cache locally all your DNS queries so speed up lookups in the future.

Re: Possible Solution to all your DNS troubles
Just a point but where does the local DNS servers get its DNS information from, surely it would go to NTL's servers?
