Re: email error code, what does it mean?
Might be connected to this problem I get when downloading large amounts of e-mail from ukonline.co.uk even though I am using NTL 750k broadband.
Here is the error message I get. Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible causes for this include server problems, network problems, or a long period of inactivity. Account: 'pop3.ukonline.co.uk', Server: 'pop3.ukonline.co.uk', Protocol: POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10053, Error Number: 0x800CCC0F I have just had a reply from ukonline.co.uk who suggest it is an NTL problem so I have sent a message to them asking to look into it. |

just had someone with this error - caused by pccillin. try disabling email scanning then test. if after re-enabling it fails again uninstall/reinstall pccillin make sure pccillin is up to date and run a full AV scan afterwards |
Re: email error code, what does it mean?
not using pccillin, using norton. my NTL address has started working again for some reason but my yahoo one still comes up with an error

Re: email error code, what does it mean?
now it's not working, just tried to send mail to my yahoo address from my ntl one and it came up with the same error:
Task '****** ****** NTL - Sending' reported error (0x800CCC0F) : 'The connection to the server was interrupted. If this problem continues, contact your server administrator or Internet service provider (ISP).' |

I note your suggestion and I use Avast as my anti-virus programme. The only thing I would say, if you think I am going to disable my e-mail scanning while downloading up to 300 messges, when quite often I get 2 or 3 infected mails, then you have to be kidding surely? |

run a full AV scan afterwards and dont open any of the emails!! it's your choice - you can either attempt to fix the problem or not! |

I can download my mail most times with no problem then another time it will just stop and I have to restart the whole process again. Are you suggesting that perhaps for the next 2 - 4 attempts I do as you suggest to see if it could be my anti-virus program causing the problem? Also of course this will leave me having to spend an hour or so doing a system scan to find any mail that may be infected. |

Re: email error code, what does it mean?
I think I have found a way round this.
Although Avast would not scan my OE folder where the messages are stored direct from the program, I have found that if I manually go to the folder I can scan that folder for virues. I hope I am doing this correctly as it certainly speeded up the time it normally takes to download over 140 large messages. You appear to be quite knowledgeable on this so perhaps you could give your view on my manually scanning the OE folder where messages are stored. |

There was a Symantec "Common Client" update recently and this seems to have caused a few problems. There is a post re this on the pcadvisor.co.uk forum. That also seems to be an NTL user and its seems NTL are baliming the symantec update My e-mail is now giving the same error and it only started happening after this update. Suggest you contact Symantec ( I have e-mailed them) |
