Please help

Hi guys & gals

I'm on Ntl 600k, i've been on this for 1 year now without problems.
but these last few days have been a nightmare, my net is surfing really slow.
Now on my correct connect i keep getting a red cross through my default gateway.
I just bought a new ethernet cable but i'm still getting the red cross through my default gateway.
When i refresh it i get a tick but then the red cross comes back.

Any ideas what could be wrong?

ic14 22-08-2003 19:20

Well, i dont have NTL (any more) but it could be connected with the rise in internet traffic from the recent visruses

What Operating system are you running?, Have you recently altered any settings? (Even Inadvertantly)

liverpool fan 22-08-2003 19:26

I'm on xp & we haven't changed anything

paulyoung666 22-08-2003 19:40

is your pc shutting down at all ?????????????

liverpool fan 22-08-2003 19:50

No mate nothing like that.

grum1978 22-08-2003 19:53

I 'think' alot of the ntl network is slow at the moment with all the viruses knocking about, so i wouldn't worry to much.

Go and have a few beers and enjoy the long weekend away from your comp ;)

paulyoung666 22-08-2003 19:57

how about binning correct connect ;)
also have you tried reinstalling your nic and or making sure you have the latest drivers for it :)

Run this speed test, and post the results;

it is a good indication for problems though ;) :) :)

this is from teesside

1st 128K took 1823 ms = 71899 Bytes/sec = approx 598 kbits/sec
2nd 128K took 1832 ms = 71546 Bytes/sec = approx 595 kbits/sec
3rd 128K took 1793 ms = 73102 Bytes/sec = approx 608 kbits/sec
4th 128K took 1893 ms = 69240 Bytes/sec = approx 576 kbits/sec

or try this :)

liverpool fan 22-08-2003 23:31

1st 128K took 19548 ms = 6705 Bytes/sec = approx 56 kbits/sec
2nd 128K took 13289 ms = 9863 Bytes/sec = approx 82 kbits/sec
3rd 128K took 12328 ms = 10632 Bytes/sec = approx 88 kbits/sec
4th 128K took 12338 ms = 10623 Bytes/sec = approx 88 kbits/sec

What is default gateway anyway?
Because thats the ony thing with the red cross through it.
