STB been on tune since 23.00 last night
hello all
i have found my way here following on from the above error looking for a little advise. i live in the cardiff/penarth area and last night just after 23.00 when settled down to watch dracula dead and loving it my box went dead and the display came up with a solitary "0". being a long time customer i dutifully powered off the unit and gave it a minute before switching back on, this did not work and i was greeted with the "updating service message" i powered off again cleaned the card and plugged it all back in - nothing  so this morning despite being pretty sure that there was no-one available i tried to call for assistance, i was right no-one home :( i then remembered i had signed up last time i had a problem with my STB here so started trying to track my way back - I MADE IT :) i have now followed the "Sticky Info: Useful STB Info" and held down when powering on and have got the following abbreviated messages and error numbers. 1st advises that the cable has come unplugged with error number M043 ( checked it and its in good and tight at both ends ) 2nd says the smart card is dislodged with error number A013 ( oh no it isnt ) and all through this the STB display is showing a single "0" is my *cough* "unblowable box" blown and can anyone confirm my suspicion that in order to reset the boxes ntl send a power surge in order to get them to reset thanks hj |

welcome back to the site, First of all with the MO43 although the coax is tight in both ends at the Isolator and the STB it sometimes works to unscrew it at both ends make sure the ends are clean and then re-connect it. The A013 error could be that the card is not sitting on the reader correctly try removing it again and re-seating it making sure its in the bottom slot on the STB with NTL facing upwards and the gold chip pointing away from you. Lastly I'd be mightly impressed if NTL sent a power surge to reboot the STB's not lastly because they dont provide your premises with Power. |
Re: STB been on tune since 23.00 last night
thanks gooner4life recognise your name actually LOL
done all you have suggested - no joy :( and finally how do they reset the boxes then ? if not a power surge its got to be something similar as the last box i had "the blowable type" that went bang had burnt the card which needed replacing when it went phut ?? |
Re: STB been on tune since 23.00 last night
ok little update, it does not appear that the box has blown
I just dont have any channels ( i think this is what the 0 means ) i have managed to get into the menu system up via the guide button is there anything else i can check from there ? thanks hj |
Re: STB been on tune since 23.00 last night
press page up, page down, blue.
Tell us the SNR and the return power. If SNR = lower than 20 and Return power = lower than 30 then you have a signal problem and it is NTL's problem not yours. If this is the case you can't do anything as it is nothing to do with your household or your box, they just need to repair the network in your area. |
Re: STB been on tune since 23.00 last night
thanks ian guy
page up page down and the blue button together does nothing separately it just brings up the diary |

"page" up/down is in the middle at the top near the LED. EDIT. I am on Bromley with two boxes one running CR3 and one running "something else" ;) It sounds as though you are Langley platform and are pressing up/down on the cursor control and not Page up/down. Pressing cursor up/down + blue on my Bromley CR3 does nothing, but on other box it does bring up the diary, which if I recall from a recent visit to my brother in Woking is how CR3 works already on Langley. |
Re: STB been on tune since 23.00 last night
i have tried both the up and down on the left hand shoulder followed by the blue and the up and down above and below the select button.
to help with reference a pic of the remote can be found here http://www.brymar.co.uk/acatalog/NTLREMDOL.jpg thanks to everyone who has tried to help so far :) |
Re: STB been on tune since 23.00 last night
hi again homer, the page up then page down then blue button should bring up the network status, dont worry if it doesnt though, if you have the STB stuck on 0 and an MO43 error it basically means the STB cannot find the downstream to lock onto.
Give NTL faults a call in the morning. Where do you recognise my name from btw? |
Re: STB been on tune since 23.00 last night
hey i just tried the pge up/pg dwn and blue combo and it didn't do anything for me either - until i did it in normal mode, not in the menu!!
i think that part wasnt made clear. do it when not in the menu system |
Re: STB been on tune since 23.00 last night
yes, you must do it with the blank screen you are getting, no other menus or message boxes open.
