Problems gaming since 1.5MB upgrade

I have rather a strange problem from which I am scratching my head.

A few months ago NTL supplied me with one of them SAMSUNG crome /silver - STB in preperation for the upgrade to 1.5mb, everything contiunued as normal for a month or so no problems until they actually upgraded ( make the switch from 1mb to 1.5mb ) my service 2 weeks go. Now when i attempt to play games such as COD ONLINE or CS-Source ONLINE i suffer from a terrible FPS rate. I know this is NOT gfx related as the games run fine in single player mode its only as soon as I attempt to play then over the internet this happens,

Any Suggestions?

spec

intel pentium 3.06Ghtz
ram 2Gbtz DDR
Radeon saphire x800 PRO gfx
Windows XP Pro
help me i miss my games :Yikes:

Have you reported this to ntl Tech Support? (if so-what did they say, & if not-why not!?)

:welcome: to the site btw. :)

Um.

FPS being frames-per-second, I presume.

First, do you still get poor FPS when playing offline?
Second, do the games you play have any form of latency (ping) measurement built in? If so, tell us what it is.
Third, make sure that the connection from STB to PC is forced to 10Mb/half duplex speed - this is ample for what you want and has helped people with Samsung issues in the past.

I'm presuming you haven't upgraded the game code or settings recently, or are running spyware/P2P, and you do regular virus checks?

I doubt TS would say much more than game graphics performance per se is the responsibility of you and your PC - online game latency, however, is more of our problem.

It sounds like an oline prob BB. ;)

Also-As Paul says, post some traceroutes to the server you are playing on (what is the address of the server, & where is it?)

[Edit]-Do you have anything using bandwidth while you are having these online issues-Kazaa/EMule/Bit Torrent etc?, or maybe another PC on a home network using bandwidth?

Re: Problems gaming since 1.5MB upgrade

NO i have no problems playing the same games offline everything is fine and NO I do not have any more internet based applications running such as p2p software. What is really strange as far as your questions about my ping is concerned is that i still suffer the same problem even if I set myself up as server having a ping of 0.

How do i change my connection settings to 10Mb/half duplex speed maybe this would resolve the issue I am using winxp pro.

thanks for your help guys really appriciated :p:

Connect to/Show all Connections. Right-click on LAN connection, select 'properties'. At the top of the dialogue box, you'll see the card and a 'configure' button. Click that, then 'advanced'. Select 'Speed and Duplex'. It's probably set to auto. Select '10MB/Half' from the drop/down list. 'OK' out.

Changing my connection speed to 10mb Half duplex did not resolve this ( thanks for the suggestion ) I am pretty certain I have no virus's as i have been running Mcafee 24/7 for months. This is very frustrating any more suggestions this one is giving me headache?

Have you reported the problem to ntl Tech Support?

Re: Problems gaming since 1.5MB upgrade

Have no noticeable problems browsing although I used an application called Dan Elwells broadband speed test which reported a substantial packet loss 24% in one circumstance although repeating the test only resulted in a 6% loss.

I have not yet reported this problem to NTL Tech support as I was hoping you guys could resolve this, but as this seems the next logical step I will do so and keep you guys posted.

Thanks again

:p:

Would go the tech support route as your web page loading speeds will have no bearing as they predominantly use port 8080 for web browsing traffic and wont help if your problem is pings and latency.

Trace Routes to the game server posted here are also the best way forward to check the obvious.

:D

As above those pings to the server look great.

It may be that you are getting choke as well.

Have tried some tweaks for the game ???

You can try seetting the following and trying to force it -

fps_max 99

This controls your maximum Frames Per Second (fps). The default setting is 72, whereas the optimum setting is 99.

Another thing to bear in mind when online are you using any no cd cracks etc.

:)
