I need help choosing a laser printer

I want a cheap laser printer (£150-£300) for printing black text, but I don't want it to cost me loads when I need to replace the toner or drum (or what ever it is they use).

Ideally I wouldn't mind spending a little more on the printer if the toner is cheaper. I know one problem with buying ink-jets is that the cheaper models need chipped cartridges (like my crappy Lexmark) that cost loads more than just plain ink tanks.

I've been looking around the net but none of the websites I have been to compare them on the price of their consumables, have any of you guys got any ideas?

I know the Lexmark in the office has the most expensive toner cartridges of all the b&w lasers here...

GEt some lists of the consumables before going to the sites.
Look at the costs of the printers with the lower cost toner units.

Personally, if I ever had to buy a laser printer (I have 2 ex office ones) I'd get one where the paper is stored in the tray underneath, the HP6l that I use is a pain with the gravity fed paper.

I'm happy with my HP1150. 2.5ppp I think so not the cheapest, but we were buying for quality of output as it is used to print wedding invitations.

I thought some of the sites had a cost per page on them.

So far the one I really like is the Samsung SCX 4116 (£265 + VAT), its 17ppm multifunction, and prints approx 3000 pages for £60.09

Anyone had any dealings with Samsung printers?

I have a Samsung ML-6060, which is very good. It's toner cartridge is about £70 and will print 6000 pages.

I believe that the Samsung ML-1450 is basically the modern equivalent and this costs £199 + VAT. It is "only" 13ppm but unless you are printing hundreds of sheets at a time you will not notice much difference compared with a faster printer.

I also believe that the Tally T9114 is identical to the Samsung ML-1450 but without the brand-name and, hence, is only £169 + VAT!
