Moving House, Cable to ADSL Enquiry
Hi,
I wonder if you guys can help. I am moving house soon. In my current village I have been a customer of NTL TV, Telephone and Cable Broadband. In the new place (only 1.5 miles away) there is unfortunately no cable. I have however seen on the NTL Home website that ADSL is available thorugh NTL. 1) Is this service comparable? I.e. Will NTL provide an ADSL modem. 2) How easy is it for me to take my NTL phone number with me? 3) How easy is it for me to take my NTL email address with me? Thanks Jamie |
Re: Moving House, Cable to ADSL Enquiry
1. Not sure, but I would think you would be able to get a more comptetive deal from one of the other ADSL providers around - maybe something in http://www.cableforum.co.uk/board/forumdisplay.php?f=63
You may also be able to get a phone/Sky/ADSL package cheaper than individually. 2. IIRC BT are usually quite good at moving numbers but you will probably have to pay for it. May be dependant on whether you new house is in a different area code. 3. If you tell NTL you want to move to PAYG dial-up you should be able to keep your ntlworld email address. Not sure if you have to actually dial-up to keep the account active. HTH |
Re: Moving House, Cable to ADSL Enquiry
The ntl Freedom package is quite good compared to other ADSL Services, providing you use your telephone.
It includes 512kb Broadband and £15 calls for £29.00 https://secure.ntlfreedom.com/bundle...d_classic.aspx Not bad id say |

i don't think so ;) but to add to the 9 opinions on the other site when I worked at ntl just after they outsourced some of the sales to India got LOADS of calls from ppl being mis-sold the product and then people not able to disconncet the service or get through to freedom customer services. This was back in January time though so things might of changed :) |
Re: Moving House, Cable to ADSL Enquiry
In fairness I think most of those reviews relate to the Dial Up Services from ntl Freedom which started off well and went down hill, especially after the introduction of that damn dialler.
I do actually know a few unfortunate people who can only use dial up who swear by ntl freedom because it is cheap and fairly reliable (as long as you dont use the dialler) |

However, they are VERY negative comments. |
Re: Moving House, Cable to ADSL Enquiry
What I really want to know is if I can keep my @ntlworld.com email address if I move to NTL freedom.
Any ideas guys? J |
Re: Moving House, Cable to ADSL Enquiry
You should be able to.
I suggest ringing customer services and discussing with them, they are likely to want to keep existing customer and should be willing to sort the e-mail address for you. |
Re: Moving House, Cable to ADSL Enquiry
I'd consider other providers as well as many of them offer far more flexible packages than NTL do. Check out adslguide.org.uk for all things ADSL. There are plenty of reviews and comments on ISPs and what features and packages they offer.
Also have a look at www.samknows.com and see what your exchange supports. You might find you can get a LLU service which opens up a lot of possibilities without going through BT. Also worth keeping an eye on UK Online's new 8Mbps offering (www.ukonline.co.uk/8000), and then there's NTL's own LLU plans. |
Re: Moving House, Cable to ADSL Enquiry
Thanks for the advice. I was mainly interested in NTL freedom because I would presumably be able to keep my ntlworld.com email address and because they do a phone/adsl package for quite a good price.
Going with another ADSL provider may be cheaper for the internet but I would still have to find a phone provider. |

Oh and ud need a BT phoneline to get ADSL anyway but if you wanted to you could then use one of those providers like talktalk.etc |
