Nostalgia TV to start in 2005

Hi

Anyone got any info on the low level industry rumour that a new channel provisionally called 'Nostalgia TV' will start up Spring 2005

Apparently the line up will be stripped episodes of Emergency Ward 10, Z Cars, Softly Softly, Compact, Crossroads, The Prisoner etc etc

It will be a good channel, but it won't be as good as it used to be.......

(Someone had to say it !)

I think there is a market for this. From what I have seen, UKTV Gold don't show much from before about 1990, certainly very little from pre 1980.

Yes, it can replace Plus which used to show a lot of the older programmes. There were a lot of good programmes which I wouldn't mind seeing again.

Be nice too if we can watch some of the older American series that never made it across to the UK e.g. Western series like "Hotel De Paree, "The Gray Ghost","The Alaskans" (which starred Roger Moore) etc. I'm sure that there must be genres that have shows we have never seen.

I also wouldn't mind seeing shows like "Time Express", "The Man Who Never Was", "87th Precinct", "Hey Jeannie", "The Perry Como Show" etc.

I'm sure that everyone has favourite shows, which bring back happy memories and it would be interesting to hear what old shows forum members would like to see again.

well I know little about the economics of starting up cable channels but it would seem to me that :-

1. The older population is getting greater all the time

2. There would be a ready market for a Nostalgia TV program line up from this market as well as many new clients who would appreciate the quality drama offered particulary as UK Drama can't be bothered to show anything before 9.00pm ( are they mad or what ?)

3. I guess securing the cable rights to 40 year old programs must be cheap to purchase compared to more modern stuff

. . . . hope it gets off the ground soon

There is a limited number of digital channels on the broadcasting equipment so some TV companies have to share a channel by taking different time slots.

Mind you I can't understand what's happening with channel 101, the old Plus channel which is/was broadcasting a Granada Sky Broadcasting logo the last time I looked. Surely that digital channel could be used for a new TV channel.
