urgent hlp!stuck set top box
 
hi guys,
i urgently need help.i have a problem with my telewestset top box.it seems to be stuck with only one light on which is supposed to be standby mode.i tried pressing the power buttonon the set top box and the remote but it was still stuck,so i switched off the mains and turned it on again but it seems to be stuck on loading data for hours.ive replaced the batteries on my remote,used another one and even checked the wires but everythings ok.please help

:welcome: narvick889 to Cable Forum. Sorry it's not under better circumstances.

Looks like youve done about all you can. If you've unplugged, left it unpowered for a few minutes, removed and wiped the smartcard on a clean dry cloth, and powered up and it's still stuck your STB or coneection to it (most likley the STB) is dead. That's a call to CS to get it fixed or an engineer sent out to you.

thanx for the info.i hadnt tried wiping the smart card.that actually solved the problem and my broadbands working agin!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Glad to be of assistance.

Some STBs do have a habit of borking out the smart card with a build up of static. Wiping dissipates it. Without the smart card, the STB just doesn't have a passcode enabling it to communicate with the cable network.
