remote compatibility
Today i had fitted a second STB. Nice man gave me one of the new samsung models, which now sits above my old pace 4000. He told me that the control that came with it (NTL03BRCGB) would only control the new box.
Before he left i tested this fact, indeed the new control only controlled the new box, not the old pace. I then went and programmed in my tele so the new remote spoke to that - brilliant. Problem is, the new remote now controls both boxes at the same time! What's going on? |
Re: remote compatibility
hi and :welcome: to the site , why have you got 2 boxes stacked on each other btw :erm:

Re: remote compatibility
Presumably you are recording one STB's channel while watching the other so don't want the wrong one to change channels. The only solution I can see to this is to move one of the STBs, or to cover over it's IR receiver. Perhapps use the older PACE box whose controller doen't change both STBs at once as the main TV STB as you change that frequently, and use the other STB infrequently for the VCR recordings?
I don't think there is any way of coding the remote to one specific STB? |
Re: remote compatibility
it sounds like when you programmed your remote to control your tv, this has meant that it now controls the other box as well, when you type in copdes into your remote it changes the frequency it works on so it is the same as the tv (or one that the tv is capable of picking up) and it appears to be the same one as your old box!!

Re: remote compatibility
is what i thought scooby. I even found the reset code for the new remote - didn't change anything.
paul - goalposts answer ur question. Goalposts - thanks for suggestions. It gets more complicated though - I've also got a IR repeater from the bedroom, and I'm using a programmable remote using the RC5 codes for the older pace! So covering up the reciever is going to be annoying. mmmmmmm |
Re: remote compatibility
The IR repeater from upstairs could be put just an inch or two from the STB receiver, that's where mine is. That way it could only be seen by the specific STB?

Re: remote compatibility
cunning, like it, will try that.
*stares down at floor full of various cables he's just unplugged* |
Re: remote compatibility
The new remote will control both boxes, regardless of its programming state. This is because the 4000 accepts both IR protocols. I can only
assume the 4000 was having a sulk when you first tested it. By the way, stacking STBs is a bad idea from a cooling point of view. |

You don't need to open or damage the box to mask one sensor. Something stuck on the outside will do the trick. |
