Do I need to install SATA Drivers ?
Hi,
Im going to power up andwanted to check something. My new system is this: Now what I want to know is do I need to press F6 to load up SATA drivers so Windows will recognise the drive when I go and install Win XP Pro. I heard somewhere that as I am connected to SATA1 connector on Asus P4C 800 E deluxe board, there will be no need to install them. Its only if you are using RAID or SATA2 connectors on the motherboard. Anyone know if thats right ? Also, if I do need them, should I download them off the Segate web site for my specific Hard drive, or use the ones that came with my motherboard CD. Thanks for the help :) |
Re: Do I need to install SATA Drivers ?
I would load them at the F6 stage anyway - if XP wants to use them it will, otherwise they will be ignored - better to be safe than sorry.
Using same argument above, I would load both sets of drivers - mboard and disk - if they are diff files. XP needs to know how to talk to the SATA i/f and to the disk. As I said above if XP thinks it don't need them it will just ignore, so no harm in giving too much! HTH |
Re: Do I need to install SATA Drivers ?
Get yourself the drivers onto a floppy and press F6 (several times! ;) ) to install them during Windows setup.
I have a Raptor SATA running on my PC so if you need any help, just say the word. |
Re: Do I need to install SATA Drivers ?
Ok coool.
I've just looked at my motherboard CD and there is this handy program that puts all the SATA drivers on to a floppy for me so I'l make sure I hit F6 as Im installing. Thanks. |
