Samsung STB & DigiEye Remote
I have a setup whereby the STB output is sent by coaxial cable to my bedroom upstairs from the STB. So that I can change channels whilst in that room I use a Digieye remote receiver / transmitter unit (this type of thing - no endorsement of the website intended). The receiver sits by my bedroom TV and intercepts the STB infra red remote control signal, sends it wirelessely to the downstairs transmitter which then sends an infra red signal to the STB. This arrangement worked well with the PACE 1000 digi box I had.
My STB was recently upgraded to a Samsung. Now the digieye system is very variable wheter the the signal gets sent to or more importantly recognised by the Samsung. Where exactly is the infra red sensor on the Samsung so I can make sure the digieye sender is placed well. I think its somewhere just above and to the right of the card slot, but to the left and above the LED numbers? Does the Samsung work on a slightly diferent frequency that the DigiEye cannot cope with. If so is there another product I should get. I know that not that many of these remote transmitters actually work with STBs. |
Re: Samsung STB & DigiEye Remote
The Pace 1000 boxes use IRDA protocols for infra-red remote control whilst the Samsung boxes use 'standard' RC5 protocols that are quite different. AEI Security advertise that the DigiEye is both IRDA and RC5 compatible so it should work but I wonder...

Re: Samsung STB & DigiEye Remote
Any remote sender ought to work with the Samsung - I don't know how well the DigiEye works with RC5 codes. There have been reports of poor performance of the Samsung with the RC5 qwerty keyboard, so maybe it's remote receiver is a bit fussy - most senders degrade the signal to some extent.
It may be worth trying repositioning the Digieye's IR emitter (nearer or further away - too strong can sometimes cause problems). |
Re: Samsung STB & DigiEye Remote
Thanks for the input chaps.
I've tried all sorts of locations with both the digieye receiver and sender, especially the sender, directly in front of the STB (as I had with the PACE) or on the other side of the room (about 3m away), no difference really, it only occasionaly gets a signal through. Looks like I might need to contact the manufacturer and see what they have to say for themselves. |
