USB ntl:home 100 CM on (Suse) Linux?
 

Does anyone know how to get an NTL CM working through USB on a Linux box?
Are there any drivers anywhere?

The computer doesn't have a NIC at the moment. :(

I want to either install Suse or Red Hat.

for the effort involved why do you not spend four quid on a nic?

havnet tried connecting with it as the ambit isnt hooked up to the CATV and it isn't registered either :rolleyes:

At least it works with Mandrake 9.1 although any of the recent distros based around the 2.4 kernel should also work, it's just a question of how easy they are to set up.

I think I'll go with Mandrake 9.1, it seems to be the best version at the moment.

I'd go with the NIC anyway. Better still get a router.

I must say, free OSs are getting good at USB etc. I use a USB printer on freebsd 4.7 here and just today at work borrowed someone's usb memory stick to try in my new/old/made of bits freebsd 5.1 desktop, which autodetected it. He wouldn't let me see what was on it though.

Mind you, ethernet's still the way to go.

been using SuSE up till now, but don't like having to pay for upgrades.

if SuSE would only make the ISOs downloadable....

Downloading it now, done 2 of the ISO files, 86% left of the 3rd. :D

This thread is a bit pointless now actually because I decided to use this PC with the NIC, remove my 8GB WinXP drive and my 60GB files/games/video drive and install Linux on my spare 4GB drive which will be set at secondary master.
Then (I hope), all I'll have to do is use the Bios to set the first boot device if I want to use either Linux or WinXP when I've put the other two drives back in.

I'm only taking them out because I just read the 9.1 docs and it doesn't seem to give you the option of hda/hdb or hdc for the install and it has a big "delete everything" button. :disturbd: :ninja:

Running nicely now on /dev/hdc for Mandrake and with /dev/hda for WinXP - no problems with either OS and I was surprised to find my NTFS partitions mounted automatically. :eek:

This is the best OS I have used in a long time, it found more hardware properly than XP did too.

To select the partion manuallly use the Advanced/Expert option when it asks you which disk you want to install to. There's then a nice GUI tool for selecting where you want your install to go.

Hm,mmm probably a bit late now but with a NIC installed you could have done a network install from floppy and only downloaded the required packages rather than downloading all 3 ISOs ;)

BTW NTFS support is experimental and may suddenly stop working although YMMV

Nice and easy to use...although it locks up sometimes when I try to navigate to /mnt for some reason. :confused:

not overly unusual if you're using a GUI file browser as its reading all the mounted drives . If you type in the direct address in the location bar eg /mnt/win_c then it should go straight there.
