NTL 1571 granularity

Hi there

I've just had a second NTL phone line installed and had the 1571 service activated. I have a fairly decent cordless phone attached but it has no answer machine etc.

So, I would buy a new phone but really it would be nice to have everything via 1571, especially since it takes voicemail whilst engaged also.

Just wondering if there is any way to get a little more control over the service, like recording my own announcement, configuring the number of rings it picks up after etc. It seems to pickup after 6-7 rings, seems reasonable but would be better to reduce, even put voicemail permanently on whilst out.

When I had it activated the NTL CS person said the only difference of the paid version is that it allows you to check your voicemail remotely by dialling in.

Is there anything else the paid one does, also how much is it, is it worth it?

Cheers

The voicemail plus is £1.75 per month & it does give you the option to record your own greeting as well as being able to listen to your messages from another line. I also believe that you can change the number of rings with this option too. If not, it can be changed via cs though.

Sorry but you can't change the number of rings, it is set at 6.

The free voicemail has the preset NTL voicemail message and can't be changed, as post above it is the chargeable one that allows you to change some features and also has the PIN number.

Ummm I am in Glasgow which might be different, but I would swear that I have changed the number of rings before pickup to 4 - in fact having been sad enough to test it by phoning my home number from work :erm: it seemed to pickup after 5. (I have 1571 plus).

Defo in N/W you can't change the number of rings whichever one you have, free or chargeable

In Cambridge we also have Voicemail Plus, but there is no option to change the number of rings (just message and PIN).

Also the number of rings appears to vary from call to call - you get between 7 and 9 rings, then a slight pause, then a further ring, then the voicemail picks up.

P.S. Does anybody know when free 1571 will be available nationally?

Anyone know the instructions for the paid for 1571, I have had it installed, what is the interupt code to type before you input your pin to listen to messages remotely? It's ** on BT but that does not seem to work for NTL.

Is there an instruction booklet, can I download it, anyone have a scan.

I'm wrong :( and Debsy is right :)

Having tried it now that I am home the option to change the number of rings isn't listed on the menu and when I rang the phone from my mobile it rang 5 1/2 times before picking up. I haven't a clue why I rush to pick up the phone before it rings more than 4 times. It must be a carryover from when I had the BT version in my last house. :dunce:

Just spoke with a friend who works in Customer Service in Glasgow and he said its possible to change v-mail plus in the Celtic region to up to 12 rings. He says that he does it through a forms page on the intranet. All people need to do is call the CS dept.

Why do you not get a broken dial tone to indicate messages waiting? What indication do you get?

OK, In Cambridge we do get a broken dial tone to indicate messages waiting. Do you not get this in Hertford?
