Is it worth switching from BT ?
Hi,
Does any one think it is actually worth switching 'phone provider to NTL from BT ?I can't see any advantage now (and I get Caller display with BT). I am seeking opinion as NTL have offered me a "good deal" or so it seems on broadband and telephone. Any Customer Service Comments from the Ashford, Kent area (TN23). Regards Martinhog |
Re: Is it worthg switching from BT ?
You lose the benefit of being able to select multiple long distance calling plans through access numbers, 18888, 1878 and all those.
NTLs lines are supposed to be very high quality as the network is newer. You may get CLI, you need to confirm this up front. To answer whether it is worth it would probably require a breakdown of your calling patterns, time of day, destination type (mobile, local, long distance, national rate, premium rate). You can get BB over cable without the need to move your phone line, the two products are independant (unlike TV which is bundled with Phone). |

Hi Martrinhog,
Ntl have some good deals at the mo (for new customers anyway!) I believe if you take broaband and phone you can get the line rental for free for the first 12 months (Telco rental that is!) I would swap over based on that! Is this what they have offered or something different? Gazza :waving: |
Re: Is it worth switching from BT ?
Yes, that's basically it, free line rental for 12 months, although it's nice to know if the Mother in law is calling !! Thanks for all your replies !

edit - OT but also worth pointing out that 18866 are excellent value for short distance calls too - 0.5p per min at all times for landlines and as little as 2p for mobiles :) |
Re: Is it worth switching from BT ?
I'd stick with BT. Chances are you won't get Caller ID, but you can check. Customer service with NTL can suck and despite the deals for some people it can be more hassle than it's worth, especially if you get a screwed up install.
Also, remember that NTL has a 5p (or thereabouts) per call charge, not an inclusive minimum charge like BT, so whatever calls you make with NTL you have to add 5p on. |

Hi Thanks for your replies. Why dosn't the NTL website show in which areas caller display is available in rather than giving the impression it's country wide....oh am I being silly ?
