Turn stb off overnight
From NTL call centre woman today: Important to turn stb to standby (i.e. no channel numbers showing) overnight. NTL sends updates to the card overnight which are not embedded unless stb is on standby. No-one ever told me that before. But maybe everyone here knew that...

Re: Turn stb off overnight
A silly question but what if you leave it on with the numbers showing, does that muck things up? Could this be why the quick menu don't work all the time and I have to re-boot the STB???? Do'H

Yes, it seems so. I have almost never bothered to turn mine off to standby and almost every time I want to watch TV I have had to reboot :-(

Re: Turn stb off overnight
As I understand it, it doesn't matter whether the box is on standby or not. Mine certainly recieves updates, and is left on all the time.
The only reason I can think of that the box being in standby (which just turns off the video display and front panel - look at the output on the VCR scart for proof) would make a difference is if the box needed to shut down so that NTL could overwrite the software. NTL can do this anyway, and if need be, they reboot the box remotely. |
