Not just ntl in fairness, but all the "Oh yes Sir/Madam, I've made a note on your account that your next month's <insert product here> will be totally free of charge" companies that thrive on the fact that their emloyees can agree things & never be traced when they don't happen. :afire: |
Re: ntl beware!
Great find !! I'll definitely be using that on calls to certain companies.

A brief extract from the article: Do I have to let people know that I intend to record their telephone conversations with me? No, provided you are not intending to make the contents of the communication available to a third party. If you are you will need the consent of the person you are recording. So if the person you were speaking to didn't consent to being recorded you would have to terminate the call. I'm not saying I agree but I know several people in various call centres I've worked in who will quite happily terminate the callif they are being recorded by the customer. |
Re: ntl beware!
when you phone a call centre / support place you usually get a disclaimer announcement saying calls my be recorded for training purposes - fair do's they can expect you to record them too.

Re: ntl beware!
My Dad did this with a holiday company who had knackered our holiday. They expected us to the foot the bill for a change of hotel because they decided to change their policy about allowing children into a hotel, when our travel agent asked for confirmation and they said there were no problems. Then they rang us two months before we were to leave to say the holiday had been cancelled.
Getting back to the original point, my Dad set up a telephone with a mic and mini disc recorder and started recording the conversation. The company had warned that they may record calls for training purposes. So when he got through he made it clear that this conversation was being recorded. The woman on the other end said, 'You can't do that!' My Dad said that they were doing the same thing for 'training purposes'. She refused to talk to him any further so my Dad said that he promised to stop recording aslong as no recordering was going on at their end. She agreed and my Dad pointed out that if this conversation was to turn up in the future he would not be pleased. Baring in mind we have this small conversation of agreement on the mini disc ;) Any how you will be pleased to know that the holiday comapny ended up paying for us to go to what turned out to be a much better hotel. |
Re: ntl beware!
How do you get charged for the call itself then?
Say you ring a Premium Rate Call Centre (Freeserve used to have one - don't know of any others) through this service are you charged at the 50p/£1 a minute or at the 10p per minute call charge to the 0871 number?? If it's the 10p then how does Registered Call make up the rest of the cost of the call? Rad |
