Snowdonia area - hotels/guest houses?
 

I though I'd take a short break for a few days up in the Snowdonia region either next week or the one after but I'm wondering if anyone has any recommendations about where to stay?

Specifically, I'm looking for a comfortable place, 2 or 3 star within walking or bike ride distance of some of the stunning scenery there.
I'm planning to just take an mp3 player, my digital camera and spend some time admiring my country. :)

Not sure about that far north Rich, but I'm a regular visitor to mid wales (Aberdovey, Tywyn etc) and that too is a beautiful part of Wales. Maybe worth a trip down ?

I stayed in the Royal Sportsman Hotel in Porthmadog earlier this month, it was a very nice friendly place with a good atmosphere.

Rooms £65 or £75 for 2 sharing including breakfast.

I went on the Blaenau-ffestiniog railway from Porthmadog up to the Lletchwyd (Spelling?) Slate caverns, been a few times before but still very enjoyable.
I can certainly recomnd it if that is close enough to snowdon for you.

I'd recommend the Pen-Y-Gwrd Hotel (more commonly known as The P.Y.G.). It's right in the heart of Snowdonia with fantastic views of the Snowdon Horseshoe and ideal for tackling it too. Watch out for the signatures of some summitters on the ceiling of the Everest bar. Reasonable prices too.

Yeah, that's where I'll be going - either Blaenau or Porthmadog so I'll be using the railway too.

If you plan to go on the Snowdon Mountain Railway then get to Llanberis early 'cos it books up quickly. You'll also need lots of dosh - £20 for adults, £16 for kids.

Good tip, I got there at 9am and they was already a long que, the slate museum is good that you mentioned and the Llanberis lake railway on the same site is worth a trip.

Thats my favourite part of the country.

The Bus trip from Blaenau ffestniog railway to the slate caverns is £2 return, I had a good laugh when some penny pinching foreigner was complaining that it should be free! He was making one hell of a song and dance, fortunately the driver ended up telling him to walk if he didn't want to pay the £2 :D
