three, two, audio one

'Three, two, audio one' was what my tele was saying repeatedly when I switched it on this evening. No picture, STB did not respond. A reboot cured it (I was worried there for a minute, with the footie about to start :) ). I was just wondering what it means/what was wrong.

Does anyone know?

Last one. Was the last channel you were watching one of the Beeb interactive ones? Its my guess thats what you were listening to, one of the channels test sequences.

Yes, Wimbledon interactive was the last channel I watched (I didn't realise that till now). And I switched the tele off, whilst watching one of the games through the multiscreen option, so I suppose the STB was now tuned to an interactive channel that did not carry any content anymore.

Does this mean that tapping tv on the remote would have worked?

Perhaps I just need to get used to this whole interactive business, but I find it a little odd that apparently the stb is locked into this interactive channel when nothing of value is on it anymore.

I imagine it workes like this:

You were tuned to an interactive channel with a setup that includes a picture feed, and responses to certain keypresses...

The interactive channel finished (as it probably costs more to keep the feed going when there's nothing to show) so it swicthed to the equivilent of the old colour bars...

This removes the interactive content, which includes the responses to keypresses, "locking" you in.

This is all speculation, but would certainly make sense...
