Java is confusing my modem?
Hi, I have a slight problem that's driving me mad. Whener I use a Java application, my connection freezes and ends up in my computer freezing, too. I tried this on the other two computers in the house and it done the same, the connection slowly slows down until it dies, and then Explorer locks up (Start menu gets stuck, can't open any new windows).
Are there any firmware upgrades for the ntl modem? (Sorry I don't know the specific model name, it's silver with "ntl:holme broadband internet" on the front) Any help appreciated, thanks :) |
Re: Java is confusing my modem?
sorry m8, but if there were universal problems with java, that you seem to be suffering locally, I think there would be more discussion about it.
i.e. I don't think it is your modem which is the problem, but your particular java installation. IIRC, an xp upgrade might have had something to do with this - I'm still on 98se, so not an 'expert' :) |
Re: Java is confusing my modem?
Go to www.java.com and download Sun Java.
See how that does you. It's nothing to do with your ntl modem. Kinda like asking Royal Mail for a new postman because the big package that you insisted be be put through your door (even though it blatantly wouldn't fit) broke your letterbox. |
Re: Java is confusing my modem?
I've tried all sorts of Java installations, and nothing's helped yet. I dug out my old router and plugged in my workstation and laptop, left Azureus running for 10 minutes and then it started happening again, explorer locked and my downloads stopped, along with the laptop loosing its connection, my system didn't unlock until I unplugged the modem.
I know it doesn't really make any sense blaming it on Java since it shouldn't have any connectivity with my modem, but it only happens when I run a Java application. I just found my modem log (http://192.168.100.1/P_log.htm) and it has this repeated around 10 times at the time it froze: Quote:

One for the Cable Techs to confirm - but it looks like a CM fault to me - have you reported a fault to TS at all ?
