Military Centrino notebook gets watered daily, sprouts leaves
Quote:
MIGHTY TAIWANESE manufacturer Mitac was showing off not only Smartphones, PDAs, motherboards and Tyan boards, but a rugged notebook under the Getac brand which looks like it may take everything but a direct hit.
The Getac A770, for example, is "best for heavy industry, military and high end outdoor activities."
You can drop it, drip it, shake it, vibrate it and the Centrino machine uses multiple integrated wireless communications.
Indeed, I don't know whether you can see it in the picture, but there's a pipe dripping water continually onto the machine.
How does that work then? Inside the thickish case there is a waterproof and shockproof frame which presumably also has watertight and dustproof seals and this makes the machine what it is.
Indeed, so much water was dripping onto the notebook and the climate of Taiwan is so lush, that foliage seems to have sprouted around the machine in just a few days.
We asked Mitac whether the Taiwanese army would use this machine when the country joined the theatre of operations in Iraq. "That's funny," she said. So the answer is presumably yes
