Windows Server 2003 issue?
Related to the IIS 6.0 I have an issue with some resource files I have. Basically I have some Macromedia Flash movies that import a text file and displays the text within. (like a template system)
I'm in the process of migrating from 2000 to 2003 servers. Upon transferring the files I noticed this problem, hence my code hasn't changed just the server. Does anyone know of anything within 2003, or even 2000 (could have been disabled!), that would prevent files from being downloaded? The text file has a custom extention .MMC Any thoughts? |
Re: Windows Server 2003 issue?
Windows 2003 Server locks loads of things down - Microsofts attempt to produce a more secure system - This way the blame for having things turned "on" is passed to you because you need to enable it.
In other words "Haven't a clue" but the above may help you in your quest for the answer...Possibly need to lower security levels on IIS? Do you get anything in the security logs? |
Re: Windows Server 2003 issue?
Sorry Caspar - I'm not entirely clear what your problem is. What is/isn't happening that should ?

Re: Windows Server 2003 issue?
The Flash files use external text files to populate them, for example there is only one flash movie (the template) which is used many times over many pages. Each page has different text, imported from the text file for that page.
Does that make sense? The flash files work as the should on the localhost and on the previous 2000 server. Now that I'm migrating the content to 2003 they don't work. I narrowed the problem to being that the external text file, called info.mmc does not get downloaded, hence the template page has now text. The text file has the extention .MMC which I'm persuming is not allowed to be download, by IIS 6.0, because it does not recognise the file extention. What I need to know is where is the IIS 6.0 exists an allowed list of files that can and cannot be downloaded. I then persumably just add my .MMC extention? :) |
Re: Windows Server 2003 issue?
.mmc is the microsoft console file tag if im not wrong, i would suggest changing the file extensions to something really random (not including an 'm' at the beggining.) how about .apm or .txt
