Help with suround sound.
Please help with a problem I have?
I have a Panasonic DTS surround sound system, and cables white and red ones (not technically minded) going from my surround sound box to the TV. The sound is coming out as stereo. Is there a way of having digital sound with my NTL box? Do I need a special cable? It works fine with DVDs as I have a optical cable, but not on Eastenders eg.:( Thanks |
Re: Help with suround sound.
Is there a digital coax or optical out from the NTL box? If not then you're stuck with stereo.

I'm confused, you've got a phono pair going from the decoder to the TV? Is the decoder connected to a set of surround speakers of it's own? You should be able to take a digital out to the DTS decoder to the surround speakers, not sure you'd get much benefit by whacking the output straight back into the TV.

Don't forget that the majority of UK TV shows are only broadcast in stereo. ;)

Re: Help with suround sound.
The red and white cable is actually going from the TV to the DTS box - I think. This is sending a stereo signal from the TV to the decoder.
If your STB is connected to the TV by SCART and you are watching on an AV channel then you are sending a stereo signal to the decoder from the STB. NTL STBs don't do digital audio. The only STBs that do are some Sky boxes and Sky+. This only feeds on the Sky Movie channels. Whilst BBC1 etc only broadcast in stereo, they do send the Dolby ProLogic signals in that transmission. So if your decoder does ProLogic (which you will probably need to manually set unlike the digital feed) then turning it on should give you more of a surround sound. |
