Wanted: DIY Enthusiast

I need to build some sort of stand thing for my turntables and mixer, DIY and me don't get on, so simpler is better.

Each turntable is approx 50cm wide and about 45 deep, the mixer is around 30cm wide and approx the same depth, I have this shelving unit type thing which is the exact height I need it but it's not wide enough. I was thinking about getting some form of kitchen worktop, sticking some rubber matting under it and whacking it on the top but I can only find worktops in 3 meter lengths and me and saw's just don't get on. I would buy a proper DJ desk affair but don't really want to part with over 300 quid.

Anyone have any ideas?

Almost any good woodyard/timber yard type outlet will cut to your exact specifactions, and probably deliver for a reasonable cost.

Most stock a range of worktop and mdf in various dimensions and would advise you on loadbearing etc.

One near me offers a joinery service - give them the idea they will make/fit it if you are not 'Mr Practical'

I've just seen B&Q do a sheet of MDF for around 7 quid, 1220mm x 607mm x 18mm, I think the exact widths for my kit are 450 + 450 + 272, leaving a tidy 48mm to spare :D Job done! Thanks for the tip though.

Well add £5 for 10m of rubber draught excluder to stop it slipping about and I'm quids in! The handy thing is, the shelving unit I have is perfectly sized to fit 100's of 12"s on both shelves.

No you don't, trust me, my living room has a wooden floor and it's a complete b@stard to keep clean, dust everywhere, and besides you don't need a mop a carpet! (unless you're mental)

Cheers, but I couldn't possibly buy anything from a site that reckons Numark Groove Tool cartridges are "high quality" with "great sound" and "ideal for scratching", they're the sort of styli you'd find on Tomy's My First Record Deck.
