1MB SDSL for £25/p
Right, I don't believe this yet...so bare with me!
My boss told me that he's about to sign up with a new technology company based in Trafford, Manchester for a 1MB SDSL WIRELESS line. The deal is only £25/p :Yikes: I don't know what the setup costs are, if any! I'm waiting for him to email me the company link... ;) Also, what's involved with a wireless supplier? ...a HUGE ariel on top of the house? etc...? If it's true then I'm signing up!!! ;) |
Re: 1MB SDSL for £25/p
If it's laser link then you'll need line of sight with the access point.. so it may be restricted to a very localised area.
Still, 1mbit both ways is pretty impressive for £25.. I'll be interested in what comes of your investigations. :) |
Re: 1MB SDSL for £25/p
I think the setup costs would be huge TBH.

Re: 1MB SDSL for £25/p
you could always 'bond' 4 ADSL lines together and get 1mb up with 2mb down... I think that'd work out around £100 a month! you'd still have the standard ADSL contention ratio though.

My boss lives in an area of Manchester where neither NTL or BT offer broadband :Yikes: !!!! |

http://www.nildram.co.uk/bonded.htm "For instance, if you buy 4 of Nildram's dslPro2000 services you can bond them together to provide up to 8Mbps download and 1Mb/s upload for only £35 set-up and £10 per month thereafter." this implys you dont pay for extra phone line - you just pay an extra £10 per month even if you bond 4 ADSL lines. |
Re: 1MB SDSL for £25/p
What you mean is they don't specifically mention it. AFAIK you can only get one ADSL "channel" down one line - otherwise they would just offer higher speeds down a single line to start with.

you're probably right...
ok, who's gonna volunteer to ring 'em and ask!? |
Re: 1MB SDSL for £25/p
I think this could be this service your refering too
http://www.netvigator.co.uk/order/ There was a bit in our local rag that the service was now available in Reading, but says not for my RG post code :td: No set up fee, 512 = 18 1m = 28 - not sure if modem is included, looks like it is edit: No mention of Manchester though "Initially the service will be available only in the Thames Valley region. Today, the service is available in Aldershot, Maidenhead, Reading, Slough, Windsor, and Wokingham. The coverage area will increase over the next few weeks to cover more of the Thames Valley area. Expansion of the service into other areas is likely to commence later in 2004. " Edit 2: seems to be very localised I'm slap bang between reading & Wokingham yet their email response is "We do not have a projected timeline when service would be available in your area" |

FAQ 57 My netvigator is unable to connect, but it was working before Check the current signal strength on your netvigator. You may need to move it closer to a window or external wall to receive more signal. |
Re: 1MB SDSL for £25/p
Casper,
Wish I could get Symmetric 1mb that cheap. Its not actually possible to deliver SDSL or SHDSL over wireless anyway, so if you're boss does have a nice cheap symmetric service, its not that! BT Offers Broadband on all Greater Manchester Exchanges expect Appley Bridge, which is 'In Build'. Obviously service depends on line length etc. see BT Wholesale website / ADSLGuide.org. |

Ah symetrical - didn't spot that
Anyway Netvigator claim to cover 600 post codes in Reading (are there that many?) sod s law, not mine ! No idea what the service is like, but I like the price, no sign in the faq of any caps either |
