1 Attachment(s)
Are there any NTL employee's out there who will know if NTL are bothered that another company is using there name to spam people out there ?

I never signed up for this and its gone to a none ntlworld e-mail addy. I did notice all the user names were the same. Hmm are NTL anything to do with this ?

Re: SPAM & NTL's Name

I had an email in my ntl box yesterday saying it was from the NTL team and that the attachment was instructions to set up my account to get around some work they were performing on their mail servers in the next few days. There was a zip file attached. I didn't open it and deted it straight away. I only open my ntl mail via webmail due to the sheer amount of spam, phishing etc I get to it. Then I can just delete it off the server.

as far as i know this is official ntl stuff, although i have only heard about it a couple of times. I have a feeling (although this is all just a feeling and not definate info) that it is something that you can opt out of subscription to when you sign up for any sites, eg myntlhome, ebilling etc... don't know if this will explain it

anyway, to unsubscribe... follow the link here: http://scotland.ntlhomeinsider.com/c...nsubscribe.asp

if you want to view the magazine, you don't have a subscribe, but you can see them online anyway.

i am sure the ntl insider newsletter goes to everyone who does not opt out on registration. i think its the bit when u read the T&C there is tickbox there. I used to get it on dialup after swapping over from free to £10 mnth. when i migrated to bb i check the opt out clause and I haven't had it since

I have just had that one as well, It seems that other regions have had something similar for a quite a while. I also got last months issue which was the first one I had ever received.

I think you may have to use a different E-mail addy to unsubscribe, the version for this area is not the one from Scotland but from north@nthomelinsider.com

Again I opted out of nothing because I have never signed anything since having cable. Which I had installed in the Nynex days (oh and they were the days:D )

Update. there is an unsubscribe link if you go to "Update your details" at the bottom of the e-mail from Ntl Insider.
Which takes you here.http://north.ntlhomeinsider.com/cent...nsubscribe.asp

I would have thought that NTL would register their own domain names. I looked up NTLhomeinsider.com on Network Solutions' WhoIs site. I got:

Quote:

Registrant:
Equator (Scotland) Ltd (NTLHOMEINSIDER-DOM)
33 Lynedoch Street
Glasgow, Scotland g3 6aa
UK

Domain Name: NTLHOMEINSIDER.COM

Administrative Contact, Technical Contact:
Watt, Gareth (WXSPZUWIFI) gareth@eqtr.com
33 Lynedoch Street
Glasgow, Scotland g3 6aa
GB
0141 353 1444

Record expires on 08-Apr-2005.
Record created on 08-Apr-2002.
Database last updated on 9-May-2004 14:55:49 EDT.

Domain servers in listed order:

NS1.MYDYNDNS.ORG 66.151.188.45
NS2.MYDYNDNS.ORG 209.69.32.138
Maybe this person represents the compamy that registered the Domain for NTL, but ntlhome.com is registered to NTL. I would have thought that NTL would register any domains they use to NTL.

BTW, I checked the above at http://www.networksolutions.com/cgi-bin/whois/whois but cannot provide links as the site uses session cookies.

Re: SPAM & NTL's Name

I've received this ntl:insider email too. AFAIAA it is genuine. The links all point to NTL's web site, and do reflect the articles currently there.

I think this is NTL trying to give "customer service". I get similar monthly "newsletters" from Freeserve (Wanadoo???) and Tiscali, so it isn't anything special.

*EDIT* Looking at the initial site this email points to, it seems they are probably sub-contractors for NTL. The links point to NTLWorld or NTL sites, so I think it's just a case of NTL getting someone else to do the work.

*EDIT* (again) - Yes Equator are a marketing company, and if you look at their web site http://www.eqtr.com the client list shows ntl:home as one of their clients along with quite a long list of other names.

While on the subject of spam I posted something on here a few weeks back saying how my ntlworld e-mail account had been cleaned by NTL. It shows 0 e-mails. I was happy.

Well just been and checked it again this morning and :erm:

Yep - I got my insider e-mail this morning - seems genuine - I'm sure I have had them in the past as well.
