Digital radio frequencies please?
 

When I first went with NTL I paid a bit extra to have them carry the aerial from the outside to the stereo as well as the TV so that I could have digital radio stations. At that time, there were quite a few but a few years down the line several stations have gone.

When it was done, I was given a list of radio frequencies to tune in to my stereo. I really need these frequencies again so that I could tune in to the several new stations around, but I can't find them. I've looked on the Internet and they don't seem to be the right ones. Can anyone help please?

I did ring NTL and ask them but they weren't able to help. :dozey:

Do you mean the analogue frequency radio stations carried on cable that you can tune into if you plug the aerial lead into your hifi or the digital radio stations that you can listen to through your set-top-box?

This was the FM Hook-Up option right? I didn't realise in some places they charged extra for that. Actually, they didn't touch your aerial outside, these FM signals were coming along the cable, but in FM, so you're stereo could receive them as normal.

This, for me, was one of the great advantages of cable, but as you say there's very little left now.

I've also found that the CS folk have no idea what you're on about when you talk of 'fm hook-ups' however most of the channels, plus many new ones are now available via the STB as an audio only TV channel (on the digital service)

In my area pretty much all that is left are the BBC channels and a couple of independant ones. All the Music Choice Channels, Sky Radio, WRN, CNN - all gone for me.

Periodically I set the tuner to do a scan of all available channels - this way you'll see all that you have left (which ain't much!)

Used to be a one off charge for the install, £10 iirc. The other option (round here anyway) was DMX which was 30 music channels through a seperate box that then plugged into your Hifi. That went years back though cos the uptake was too low :( shame really cos it wasnt too bad.

Off topic points of interest forthcoming.....

I didn't know that DMX was available via ntl - I know they were through United Artists, latterly Telewest in some areas, as they had a stakeholding in DMX.

Music Choice (then DMX's) competitor was available via the FM service for a while on ntl. DMX Europe went bust becuase of, well, basically not selling anything, and DMX US pulled their plug on the trans-am sat feeds becuase they did not pay the bills. The guy who ran the Euro company then launched a managament buy out, relaunching as Xtra Music, after sitting doing nothing for a couple of years.

Xtra Music was part owned by UPC, cable company in Holland then Liberty Digital bought a stake - which also owns DMX in the US.

Now Xtra Music is run as a wholly owned (or at least majority) subsidy of Liberty Digital, through DMX Music Europe (which bought AEI Music, who provide music to retailers) who used to have a stake holding in Music Choice.

Confused? Actually it's funny to be writing about all this stuff, as I used to work for AEI Music (based at the Music Choice offices in London).

How weird - NTL's Baguley site used to be occupied by AEI (Associated Electrical Industries).

Different AEI, however we did used to have an uplink at NTL Crawley Court, which for a while was in one of the base band rooms, later we moved over the court to the Music Choice uplink - which occupied a fair chunk of space there.

I'm going to visit the site you gave, Altis, to see if I can get any joy.
There used to be some good radio stations but bit by bit they have disappeared, so I will also do a scan as suggested.

By the way, this is a great forum, I didn't expect replies so quickly.

Just to continue off topic :)

This way way before ntl came along, we were LCL (Leicester Cable) then. :tu: I can't remember though if we dropped it before or just after Diamond bought us out. :td:
