yahoo and lycos are set to consolidate various aspects of the respective businesses in a cost cutting exercise.

yahoo is to transfer its web chat users to the lycos service, inturn lycos will use yahoo's messaging service in a 'service swap' though there are advertising and other ideas of which both are unwilling to comment on.

I wonder where that leaves my yahoo groups chatrooms?Damn I so hate lycos at the moment,especially since they have made their pop/smtp mail into a paying concern.They were the only place that gave free SMS as well online but have now withdrawn it.I wonder if I will end up having to pay for Yahoo Messenger as well?

Oh well my friends and I will just find something else I guess.Resurrect my ICQ I suppose.

No thanks.I don't want ANOTHER email address /avatar thanks.I I actually use my Yahoo email because I own/moderated some Yahoo groups and I find Yahoo Messenger useful to keep in touch with my fellow mods.

As I understand it it will only affect us in Europe not the Americans.So my US friends will still be on the Yahoo messenger?Or can I just go to the US site and download it?

im not sure, but i always use yahoo.com and never yahoo.co.uk. Not sure how messenger works in this regard though.

I stopped using Yahoo stuff a long time ago, all my friends are on MSN Messenger, and I don't really speak to 'strangers' if you put it that way, so I have no reason to use anything associated with Yahoo.
