What's the best content management system?

Hey all,

Just wandering.. cos I was thinking of tinkering with some CMS's that come with I-web's Fantastico thing.. so do any of you have any experience of opinions of what the best CMS to use is?

cheers!

I am rapidly becoming acquainted with the world of CMS in my job ... we use a system called Immediacy, which seems to be regarded as solid but fairly basic. An alternative, Tridion, is widely recognised as Europe's leading CMS for business, but is priced accordingly. There are literally dozens out there. I don't know what you'll get for free, as I have no experience of the amateur/'prosumer' end of things.

I'm sure you can find something that will work for you on your own homepage for free with Google. However when you're running a global website carrying vital investor/media information, you want to be darned sure you know the system is rock-solid and is supported by a real developer on the other end of a phone, rather than a helpful but hit-and-miss internet forum.

Thanks for the input, people!

Um yeah well basically there is the option to auto-install several open source CMS's, and being something of an amateur, I thought I would go down that route, for now ;)

I run an amateur(ish) site that is mainly advertised to students, and was thinking of using a cms so people could upload their essays, have a photo gallery, and stuff like that. My plan was to have a static section, and then add a more 'dynamic' community-oriented section on top of that.

That way, casual users need not get scared by the mass of info that can gather when you have a large community, but frequent visitors can also come along and then start create that community. Lol, i hope that makes sense...!
It's not like I am running a business or anything, but I think it helps to know 'the lay of the land'!

I have found that Php_Nuke is very good CMS and you can install ver 7.1 from I-web's Fantastico.

it is a block and modules cms you can add these or take them out depending on what you whant to do. it also come complete with a Phpbb forum.

Hope that helps.

The forum is already intergrated into Php-Nuke you just have to activate it through the admin control panel in Php-nuke.
