Follow-up to: Wireless Networking (Quick Question...) -
Hey all.
I recieved my Belkin Wireless router today (http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/produ...duct_uid=45621) however, got a query about it... The way my cable (silver, ntl) modem communicates to my PC is simply via USB as I don't have a network card on my PC. When setting up my router, it said that I needed to disconnect the ethernet connection from my computer and connect THAT to the router and then, with the cable supplied, connect that from the router to the PC. However, like I said, I don't have a network card, so does that mean I'm gonna have to get one (like this: http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/produ...duct_uid=31095) to actually use my router? There doesn't seem to be any other way to connect my router to my PC as the router doesn't have a usb port to plug into it. Cheers. |

Yes - Ditch USB immediately
You should be able to pick up a network card for less than £15 |
Re: Follow-up to: Wireless Networking (Quick Question...) -
Or the Belkin Wireless PCI (related products) for £26.97
Their cheapest 802.11g seems to be this one http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/produ...duct_uid=58042 £22.53 inc vat Cheapest PCI Ethernet (10/100) card is £4.31 http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/produ...duct_uid=43326 Or £7.04 for a USB to 10/100 if you really don't want to fit a card http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/produ...duct_uid=60065 You could also go USB wireless, but that's the most expensive option. |
