Cancelling NTL - letter wording help please?
Hello,
I am about to write a letter to NTL to cancel all thier services. I am moving to BT/Sky/Pipex as I am more likely to get better levels of service & a red button that works :D I know that I need to do this in writing otherwise NTL are likely to say that they have no record of a cancellation, however I would like some suggestions as to what to say in the letter. Having been a customer for 8 years+ my main reasons are: Constant billing errors & bad service, poor level of services (red button never works etc despite "its coming soon") and the recent disconnection treatment despite the cuse of it being no fault of my own (i.e. its NTL/PO). Now I can put that down easily enough, but what else do I say to ensure that the date I want the contract to finish is the date that the services get cut & not before also that I receive no further bills after that date etc (yes I know I'm asking for a lot from NTL). Cheers, Zoombini |
Re: Cancelling NTL - letter wording help please?
Keep it simple, state that the letter is formal notice of your intention to leave ntl, and that in accordance with the T&Cs you are giving a minimum of 30 days notice. Unless otherwise agreed between you and ntl in writing, the date of termination of services is to be xxx.
Make that last sentence bold for effect. |

suggestion letter
Dear NTL, i would like to thank you for the serveral years of serivce but however of recent months my NTL service has been lacking somewhat, i am experiancing disconnection problems and also have been shocked at the constant billing errors and the poor effort of sorting things out, i also feel that the level of service has declined of late and the lack of a "red button" even though you have been promising it for some time has eventally swayed my judgement to leave NTL and to join another service provider for my Phones/Broadband and TV. As I am now looking for a new provider i would like my NTL connection to cease as of (enter date here) and the final bill to be sent out asap from this date. I would be grateful if this could be dealt with as I have requested as i want a smooth transition, also i would like a reciept of this letter if possibel to the above address or email address many thanks dont know whether that makes sence or not but thats what i would prob write cj x |

In all honesty, you are better RINGING in as opposed to writing.
Call up your local Canx dept, and arrange canx of service, and arrange a date for pickup of your services. Writting a letter takes to long to get processed in all honesty, we get letters off prospective new customers that were writted 1-2 months ago and for some reason take an age to get to us! Call in, it'll save you time/effort and a lot of stress!!;) |
Re: Cancelling NTL - letter wording help please?
Oh I have called in & a "David" has set it up to cancel on the 26th May.
However, I have heard many stories about cancellation calls being ignored as the contract states that it must be in writing. So I wish to back the call up with a letter to confirm it. Incidentally, they are going to pick the equipment up the following weekend, what exactly will they want? I have an STB and a cable install kit. But the cable install kit is wired in throughout the house. Will they remove the isolator et all or just switch me off in hope that I join again at a later date? I will remove the STB from the system myself. |
Re: Cancelling NTL - letter wording help please?
They will want to collect your Settop box, if yoy are disconnecting all services with them they will probably disconnect you at the cabinet in the street. Depnds on your region though

Re: Cancelling NTL - letter wording help please?
I would definitely follow up the call to CS with a letter. Protects you, just in case something don't go right. If as said above ntl can't deal with letters, that is ntl's problem not yours. Bottom line is that it's very difficult to prove waht was said by phone, but if it's in writing, that is clear to all.

It would also be a good idea to send the letter by recorded delivery, that way if and when they say they never received it,you will have proof!

Re: Cancelling NTL - letter wording help please?
Agreed re: writing and sending recorded delivery.
However I would also copy in the MD of your region, or even the CEO at Head Office. All too often, the reasons why people leave a service (any service, not just ntl) are never recorded and analysed. If you cite specific problems, issues and lack of resolutions, then at least it gives them the opportunities to address them for future and existing customers - even if they can't be bothered - at least you know you're doing the right thing. |
Re: Cancelling NTL - letter wording help please?
OK, call made, arranged etc, letter written & awaiting sending.
now my next biggest problem is actually getting to the PO to send it. |

Just tell them that your giving notice of cancellling their services. Yuo dont have to explain why.
I would also call too and if you pay by DD cancel the DD agreement at the bank to make sure they dont take an extra payment |
Re: Cancelling NTL - letter wording help please?
Send your letter via recorded delivery.

Well then why bother asking for assistance writing to them....if you don't think they're going to listen to anything you have to say, then write the letter, stating you're disconnecting. Put your name, address, account number, date and date of termination. Sign at the bottom, send by post. If you want people's input on what you want in it, don't tell them they're wrong when you get a reply. |
