coca cola for women

coca cola has come with an ingenious 'hand bag' design for women 'on the go' to promote its smaller version of 'diet coke'

Quote:

A spokeswoman for the company told the BBC that the can would better "fit in with today's hectic lifestyles".

"This is primarily aimed at women and will be promoted in the women's press," she added.

Won't these just be the same small cans you get served by airlines? Sounds like clever marketing rather than innovation to me.

Thats true! When I worked for Coke we saw proofs of an ad for Diet Coke. They consisted of a semi naked woman with a bottle, shot in black and white. Needless to say that most of the woman in the office didn't like the ads and though that they shouldn't be used. Of course none of these woman had a problem with the "Diet Coke Man"...

Exactly. Coke seems to have forgotten how to invent new things, all they are doing is employing clever marketing and re-packaging traditional products. Heavens, I wouldn't put it past them to try and market tap water ... errrrrr :erm: :disturbd:

It's all too easy to 'blame the Press' for stuff like that, as if 'the Press' (whatever that means) is some arbitrary authority over what is a good product and what is not.

The fact is, Coke took water from the tap, processed it and tried to sell it. If that was all they had done, all would probably have been fine. But they didn't just do that. They tried to market a lifestyle around it. And journalists are very good at smelling bull****.

A similar thing happened to Pepsi when it re-branded with blue cans in the mid-90s. Their marketing was so over-hyped and up its own behind, the coverage was almost entirely negative (mostly journalists describing how badly treated by security guards telling them what they could and couldnt take photos of, rather than discussing the product itself).
