am I right in thinking they are still a 'virtual' mobile company piggy backing onto the TMobile network?

Yep, absolutely ... different servers, same Network

There are 5 Main Networks

O2
Orange
Vodafone
TMobile
3

All the others are virtual piggybacking on one of the main networks.

Tesco Mobile use it, as well as the Carphone Warehouse's mobile service 'Fresh'. Seems like Tmobile will sell their soul to anyone... :D

next question... does anyone use the o2 network? apart from o2 and tesco?

3 use o2 as a default network when you roam out of their network, if that's any help.

Actually my new contract is with o2 - I'm just hoping their CS has improved....

Ok i have a prob. Have a mobile (Nokia 3310) which was my dads. He got a new Nokia and gave the 3310 to me. He bought me a Virgin mobile sim card. We put it in the phone and i can make calls send text messages etc. The only problem is is that its displaying One 2 One on the phones display screen, despite there being a Virgin sim card in there.

You can change the "operator" logo to anything you want ...

The Police use part of the O2 network too ..
