Buffering from NAS
Tried to watch something last night and it buffered. Turns out someone in the house was torrenting.
I have a NAS connected to the router and i'm streaming over wifi. I thought a NAS wouldn't be affected by what someone else was doing with the connection? Unless there's something obvious I've missed. like would it need an Ethernet connection to the viewing box from the router to avoid this? Any insights please? |
Re: Buffering from NAS
If you don't limit the torrents they will consume all the bandwidth available. The torrent client has settings to prevent that so you'll need to set those to allow sufficient bandwidth for your video stream.

Re: Buffering from NAS
Thanks, I obviously hadn't understood the technology properly then!
I didn't think streaming over my LAN would use internet bandwidth? |
Re: Buffering from NAS
Quite likely that somewhere in your LAN, probably the router, is where the streams conflict. If your LAN is significantly slower than the net connection it will become clogged with the torrent traffic.
