TV can no longer see media files on Synology after router change
Hi Team
Help please as this is driving me nuts As discussed elsewhere on these forums I have put my Virgin Media SHUB into modem mode and put as Asus RT-AC87u behind it Checked and all my kit as online access and I can access my CCTv via the app etc What I spotted last night is my Panasonic TV can no longer see my home media server (inc Plex) They very briefly flash up then it said no network server found. I can access them just fine via the PS4 (all on the same network - heck the PS4 is on the same network switch as they TV) I tried enabling multimedia sharing on my pc and saw that the TV can then see those files okay I suspect it is one of those daft minor settings somewhere in the router I need to change but I can’t work out what All the above devices are connected via Ethernet not WiFi Any sage advice please? My little one needs her daily dose of Disney movies I’ve stored on the Synology just for this - 1 click away via the TV |

You might need to reset the connection on the TV

You can also see the devices (dynamically registered via DHCP) on your ASUS router admin console. As you are using ethernet for your TV, try and switch to Wifi and compare the results. |
Re: TV can no longer see media files on Synology after router change
Sorry I forgot to say I tried that with no effect
I even turned off the Tv, reserved it an IP address but for some reason it wouldn’t “take “ and kept being seen on the network with an an dhcp assigned IP that was always the same and not the one I tried (even with rebooting everything In the end I read something about enabling muticast in the IPTV tab Did that and hey presto I could see the folders! No idea why any of the above has happened but seems to have worked |
Re: TV can no longer see media files on Synology after router change
Enabling multicast routing IGMP Proxy suddenly made the folders discoverable
No idea what it does But I don’t know if I should also enable the setting under it “enable efficient multicast forwarding - IGMP snooping Sounds like I should... |
Re: TV can no longer see media files on Synology after router change
Some words of wisdom dude. Next time you want advice on something keep it in the same thread, Everything you requested help on has arguably fallen under "networking" yet you have managed to put the same topic under three different sections of the forum and not everybody looks all sections of the forum. As an example, I check the VM internet section, tv and film several times a day and maybe computing and networking once every few weeks and that is it. If you keep everything together anybody who replies to your initial post is more likely to come back and be able to help you with any other issues rather than you hoping they stumble across it in another section of the forum.

Re: TV can no longer see media files on Synology after router change
My apologies. The intention was to actually be good and try to be good and keep everything in the “correct “ place so the stuff not directly VMB related to the network section and then (etc)
My accidental cross-posting and you’re being really helpful fused it all up I’ll try to pull it back and keep stuff together And start by retiring this thread |
Re: TV can no longer see media files on Synology after router change
np, you was right to put your first post in the VM internet section but it was technically a networking question even if it was related to VM. The point I was trying to make is that the the people who responded are networking peeps and if you had put your follow up questions, which were also networking issues, in the same thread you would have benefited from the same expertise and the responses would have been quicker as you would not have had to rely on the right people encountering the new threads by chance.

On the subject of Synology, what do you think of the overall setup? I have a DS218+ and so far, it is great. I came from a QNAP which was much inferior in software terms. |
Re: TV can no longer see media files on Synology after router change
I really like it - feature rich and easy to use
I’ve not had anything to compare it to though |
