Setting a Password for a Drive in Windows 10
 

I wish to set a password to access a drive in windows 10.

Now ive been looking around but can only find that specific to using bitlocker which also encrypts the drive which i dont wish to do just set a password to access.

Anyone have any ideas what i can use?

Why dont you want to encrypt it ?

Setting a password using bitlocker is the obvious and easy way.

The encryption is basically invisible to you.

Ive heard to many bad stories about encryption going wrong and data loss etc.

I can't help you with your query.

But would it not be a good idea to:

Have an external backup solution.

Have a cloud backup solution.

This would protect against data loss obviously.

Ive heard many stories about people dying in car crashes, it doesnt stop me from driving.
Your drive is just as likely to suffer hardware failure, you should have backups of it anyway.

My work laptop(s) have used bitlocker for the last 7 years, Ive yet to encounter a single issue.
In fact I wouldnt know it was in use were not for the fact I have to enter the password on startup.
