Police are issuing a warning about a sophisticated new phone scam
Don't know how they did this, but it's worrying and a dreadful thing to do:

Re: Police warning.
In the US phone number "spoofing" is illegal if the intent is to defraud the recipient.
FCC spoofing and caller ID IIRC there's a proposal to make it illegal in the UK for the same reasons. Can't come soon enough IMO. |
Even if they do it sadly wont stop them :(

Re: Police are issuing a warning about a sophisticated new phone scam
@Richard good heads-up.
My favourite response to cold callers (and I have responded to a few unknown numbers when I was expecting a legit call) is to be completely polite, cheery, helpful and then ask who they wanted to speak to as 'we're very busy in the office today' (I don't work in an office). It seems to work well. "Well if you can find out who you needed to... please call back... thank you for calling :) " Oh, and then I block the number. |
