A gunman has opened fire at a bar in California killing at least 12 people, including a police officer.

The shooting began at about 23:20 local time on Wednesday at the Borderline Bar and Grill in Thousand Oaks, California about 40 miles (65km) north-west of Los Angeles.

At least another 10 were also injured.

Officials say the suspect was found dead inside and have not yet identified him. They do not yet know his motive for the shooting.
And the carnage continues.:(

Authorities identified the suspected shooter as David Ian Long, who neighbors say went by the name Ian.

One neighbor who knew Long said he was a veteran who suffered from PTSD. She said, "I don't know what he was doing with a gun." Others said Long lived at the home with his mother.

His gun, which appears to be a .45-caliber handgun, was purchased legally.

As tragic as these events are it feels like they are an almost daily/weekly occurance and nothing will get don't to prevent them.

Trump just keeps spouting, "give them all guns too" which won't help anything other than the death toll rise further.

If someone was shooting at you wouldn't you like the option to defend yourself.

In a dark crowded bar, how would you know who you were shooting at?

Sorry but a non story in the UK.

If they refuse to have gun control they must 100% accept the price that some loser will kill people.

I also wish our news would stop broadcasting this.

If they had tighter control over who accesses said guns then no one would be shooting at anyone!

HOW do you add tighter a restrictions to a country with MORE guns than there is people, in circulation ?

Congress could change laws tomorrow - wouldn't do a damn thing - the guns are made and already out there and as we have seen with every hint of there being some kind of legislative change, Americans just go out and buy more guns.

By the way, there has been multiple stabbings in London this last week under the ever watchful eye of the the current useless London Mayor, last count was 8 killings up to yesterday?

Where are your posts/calls for tighter knife controls, IN our own country ???

Another week, another mass shooting. Is it even news worthy?

Knifes are totally different they are usually an everyday item used in kitchens and work places everyday. It's an item designed for a purpose that is then being used for a different one.

Guns are solely destined to kill.

Limit the type of guns available and then how many people can own. That would be a start.

How do you limit types of certain guns that are "already" in circulation ?

A knife when used as a weapon can be solely destined to kill, as is the current unwelcome trend in London.

Sadly there is not a thread on knife crime (knife murder) as it should be called on this forum yet. Bring back the death penalty I say or just shoot the perpetrators who are lower life forms.

You can’t. The horse has well and truly bolted.

That said, I think Trump could, as Obama could, make some gestures in regards to limiting the likes of automatic weapons with high round magazines.

It won’t change anythingin reality, but it would be symbolic and could be the start of encouraging a different mindset. Changing gun laws US will be a generational movement.

A mad man with a knife might kill 2-3 people and can be overpowered. A madman with a automatic or semi-automatic weapon can kill dozens or more and no one would get near.

That said the current issue in London, and U.K. as a whole, is a disgrace. The Mayor of London is a disgrace. Stop and Search works. If the black community feel they are targeted more than anyone else then i’m Afraid that’s a reflection on you, and not the police.

State sponsored murder is not the answer.

If the state undertakes the most violent act imaginable unto it’s citizens, why would it expect it’s citizens to be passive within the society the state has fostered?

A civilisation can be judged on how they treat their prisoners............Captain Picard,

Although it may have appeared in a TV script it was actually coined by Fyodor Dostoyevsky, Russian novelist, short story writer, essayist, journalist and philosopher, 1821-1881.

With a standing army and the national guard, why does the US still need a militia? After all, that was the main reason for the 2nd amendment.
