Firefox add-ons

Most people using firefox worldwide will have noticed that all their add-ons are not working today.

This is due to a certificate now being out of date.

All sorts of fixes are being touted around the web, but none have worked for me, and a few were obvious malware.

"** IMPORTANT NEWS FOR FIREFOX EXTENSION USERS ** Firefox users of the FBP extension, ought to know there is a bug in the Firefox system that is causing lots of Firefox extensions to be disabled, including FB Purity, basically a security certificate that Mozilla Firefox used to sign the add-ons expired on 4th May 2019 at midnight UTC.

You can read more about it here: https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/new...dy1Yz4TJqS9yTg "

Re: Firefox add-ons

No issues with Lastpass and Ublock here.

I don't use that many addons so i am considering moving to the New Microsoft Edge or Vivaldi.

We're rolling out a fix for the issues with add-ons right now! It will automatically be applied, so you don't need to take any steps to make add-ons work again & all your data should be unaffected.

Again, we're really sorry. More to come soon.

Perhaps I was lucky and got fixed early on.

Mine are back with Caution warnings. But as I have used them for years I trust them.

And mine never stopped working strangely unless it was during the night.

I have just lost most of my addons, infact it looks like they have been uninstalled!

May think about changing to Vivaldi now.

Should find them in "Legacy Extensions".

Suddenly seeing ads on various websites where I didn't before.

Yes i found them there.

Having setup Vivaldi how i like it i can say it seems a very nice browser, i may try and stick with it as i don't have a reason to use Firefox and Vivaldi just feels better at the moment and i am using all the same addons apart from the FVD speedial because Vivaldi has a nice one built in.

This may be the reason for the differences.

To provide this fix on short notice, we are using the Studies system. This system is enabled by default, and no action is needed unless Studies have been disabled. Firefox users can check if they have Studies enabled by going to:
  • Firefox Options/Preferences -> Privacy & Security -> Allow Firefox to install and run studies (scroll down to find the setting)

I changed the setting and within minutes the addon/certificate problem was resolved.

It may take up to six hours for the Study to be applied to Firefox. To check if the fix has been applied, you can enter “about:studies” in the location bar. If the fix is in the active, you’ll see “hotfix-update-xpi-signing-intermediate-bug-1548973” in either the Active studies or Completed studies as follows:

Still not working here, i haven't changed any settings, currently very happy with my replacement browser so we will see if i return to Firefox in a day or so when the addons work again.

Re: Firefox add-ons

I added them back using the debugging option (only had two, so not a big issue).

They will stay active until I restart FF, which I dont do very often, so we'll see what happens when I do.

I'm not running the latest (still on 56.0.2) so I dont know if that will make a difference or not.

Mine was OK until the early hours of this morning. Now addons disabled and enabling active studies not worked. Think i'll just wait for it to get fixed (hopefully). I'm on 66.0.3.

And lo and behold a couple of hours later and they're back.
