Ireland fishing in Scottish waters

I thought all EU waters were pooled i.e. any ship from a EU state can fish within the 200 mile limit?

Has the poison dwarf realised that her dream of indpendence and EU membership are about to fade away completely?

This story causes me no end of joy.

Despite the common fisheries policy each coastal state has exclusive access to the sea within 12 miles of its coast, as defined by UN charter. That’s why the UK bothered to claim Rockall as its territory and why other states with fishing interests have contested it. The territorial sea around Rockall is over 450 sq. miles and it’s full of valuable resources.

Managing fisheries within the territorial sea is a devolved issue which is why the nationalist numpties in Edinburgh are compelled by law to breathe threats against the Irish Republic over events occurring 300 miles offshore (Rockall is claimed by the UK as Scottish territory).

I love this because it’s just one thing that forces them to live up to the realities of grown up government, where you can’t be everyone’s friend all the time. And also because as has been pointed out, they hardly have the resources to carry out their threats unless they entirely swallow their pride and ask the RN to send a patrol vessel in (at which point the issue would be taken off them and handled by the grown ups in Whitehall, which they would hate so much they might blow a collective blood vessel). As I said, no end of joy. :D
